Oi! was essentially working class punk from England, it was originally called 'street punk', but it was renamed after the Cockney Rejects' classic "Oi Oi Oi", it was also quite similar to hardcore, but it always remained closer to classic punk and greatly influenced by the 'Pistols, it was really started by Sham 69, who also happened to be huge football fans ( they took their name from their local football team, Hersham, and the year they won the championship, or something) and they even made several songs about them, thus, Oi! sounded like football-chants a lot of the time, with shout-along choruses and whatnot. Also, Oi! was famous for its brutal shows, where violence would take place, it was also adopted by skinheads.
I must say Oi!'s like the coolest type of music ever, and Cockney Rejects are the epitome of musical brilliance. :rockman:

Everyone who thinks they like punk should go and listen to Rise Against. I dont care what you have to do to get their music, just get that shiznit. They're not a super political band, but they have political songs. And they are not emo, but they have songs that seem personal. But what's good about them, is that they still play fast, and the singer doesnt sound like his balls havent actually dropped yet.

recommendations: like the angel; voices off camera; black masks...
...ALL THEIR SONGS. LISTEN TO 'EM ALL!

Why are you still FVCKING reading this SH1T? GO LISTEN TO RISE AGAINST.:f***: :rockman:

Rise Against > Placebo/Pixies/The Cure > Pavement.

Pavement is TOO slow. TOO mellow. I will give it more time, however, I still suggest to you and everyone else to give Rise Against a listen.

I'm not gonna bother with them. Mainly 'cos I've lost all faith in punk. Pavement is quite mellow. I discovered it last night when MTV2 stuck Pixies and Pavement up against each other. Pixies slaughter them.

Oh, and Green Day:kader:

Who's dumb idea was it to get them to cover "I Fought the Law" for Pepsi. Boo!

he, I remember this topic; my fav punks bands are mentioned on the first page. As for now I'm not listening a lot of punk, the last punk album I got was the latest Offspring album "Splinter".
At first I didn't like it much but after listening a lot I realized it's an awesome album. The only bad thing is that is very short and it only has 10 "real" songs

Back in 94 I was a huge GD fan. They were my fave band. BJ Armstrong dressed like me and had a haircut just like mine, so, in an era of long haired, grunge looking poeple, I easily identified with the band.

But that was back in the day. Honestly, I wish they had broke up right after 'Insomniac' (which is one hell of an underrated album, imho).
Watching them now sort of destroys everything they did previously. And, if I understood correctly, they covered 'The Clash'? How can they do that? And cover a band that never sold out for a facking mega-corporation??? :kader:

I liked Shifty*rod, but after that it's all crap. They say they're maturing as artists, I say they're making 100% full on crapola.

Forget about any other bands guys, there are really only two modern punk bands, Rancid and NOFX. NOFX's latest album, "The War on Errorism", definitely a good one, probably their 3rd best after So Long..... and their best one, Punk in Drublic.

Alkaline Trio is Emo.

I love Shifty*rod too, it's my second fav album after, of course, Dookie. I think Insomniac was pretty weak, I didn't like it too much.
As for their latest studio album "Warning" I think it's not a bad album at all. They are not adolescents anymore, they matured like ShiftyPowers said and I think the album turned out ok.
Macy's day Parade and Waiting are awesome songs

Re: Rancid

Was it just me or was 'Indestructable' one huge fvcking let down?

You know what one of the first signs of getting old is? "New (insert music genre) Sucks." When you throw that line out, you gotta realize that you're not as young as you once were. ;)

It wasn't what I was expecting, but I'm not going to condemn it. It's been a few years since "And Out Come the Wolves" and they haven't ever matched that brilliance. Also I think Tim may have been concentrating more on The Transplants in the last few years, so maybe Rancid was pushed to the side a bit.
