I dunno man, I wouldn't expect too big of a price drop. They'd clear their stock of minis whether they drop it or not, Apple stuff seems to retain it's value for a long time. I've seen PowerMacs on Ebay that are like 4 years old with specs like 128 RAM, 12GB HD, etc still sell for like $1000... :|

Toshiba introduces fuel cell prototypes for audio players

Toshiba today announced that it has developed two prototypes of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) units for mobile audio players. One features an output power of 100mW for flash memory-based digital audio players and the other offers 300mW for hard disk drive (HDD)-based digital audio players.

The 100mW unit, 23x75x10mm in size, can power flash-based players for approximately 35 hours on a single 3.5ml charge of concentrated methanol, claims Toshiba. The 300mW unit is 60x75x10mm in size and delivers sufficient power to keep an HDD-based audio player running for approximately 60 hours on a single 10ml charge, said the company.

Toshiba's DMFC features a passive fuel supply system that is suited to smaller fuel cells and use with a concentrated methanol solution. Fuel cells usually mix methanol with water in a concentration of less than 30%, a dilution that supports generating efficiency but requires a fuel tank that is too big for portable equipment. Through durability and reliability tests with the new units, Toshiba will accelerate technology enhancements to support integration of DMFC into commercial products, which are expected to hit the market after 2007.

My iPod froze a few days ago, wouldn't turn on/charge/etc. so I contacted Apple and a UPS guy came to pick up my broken iPod within 2 days. I should get my new one shortly.

Long live Apple customer service.

They should make it possible to change "face plates" like you can with Nokia cell phones...

my mp3 player undergoes a lot of wear and tear and putting into a case makes it bulky...so it gets scratched up too.

yeah it's kind of a shame that iPods scratch so easily, exept for the mini I reckon. I guess it's the price of having a nice shiney white device. I was really paranoid about scratches at the begining when I first got my iPod, like most people are. I'd say it's natural to be protective of it's appearance after you've paid an arm and a leg for one. I started using a skin which was a bit of a pain to put on and take off, then just gave up on that and accepted the fact that it would scratch and stopped putting it on. I found that being obsessed with keeping the iPod looking new was geting in the way of my enjoyment of it.

Recently I started using the skin again, mainly because I've been using it for outdoor activities a lot more lately and I just want to protect it from the elements and drops, etc.. it would be nice to see future iPods to be more like the mini, with enclosed aluminum cases.

yeah the anodized aluminum case of the mini is probably the best material i've ever seen on any mp3 player... feels so solid and is pretty durable. Looks better than the white ipod as well in my opinion.

I've had my silver mini for almost a year now and I have 0 scratches on it and I don't use any type of covering either, it's great (Y).

My iPod mini has one or two small minor scratches but hardly noticable. It happened when I was smart enough to put it in the same pocket as my keys and small change :P.
I think having a slightly scratched iPod looks pretty...well, only once you get over the initial protective stage.
