here's how u change the dl target folder:
right mouse click "check for update", then go to properties.
in the line where it says "Target" change the line after -dir "C![:\](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/vb/fslash.gif ":\ :\")

and i just overwrite my original fifa 2002 files with the update one.
to check for build.
there's a file "version.txt" in the main fifa 2002 folder:
mine is "build 414". correct me if i'm wrong, but, i think this is the same as the original version from the cd.
i tried it once today, i have no complaints so far.
i know some of you guys play fifa 2k2 more than me, i can't really say much about it right now, no play for me during weekdays =(.
anyways, off to work, i hope this help.

Thats ridiculous, how big is this update, NTL will auto disconnect me after 2 hours (it's in the terms of completely free internet).
Can any1 put it on a fast server so I can download it with getright over the next few months instead of all at once??

what is the use of a patch if no one knows what does at all??

Nah still can't get it to work even after shortening the shortcut. Why can't they put it on the site like any normal person, oh I forgot EA aren't normal.

Hmm yes because that was really affecting the gameplay for us wasn't it........
OOoooh no don't fix the bug where you replace an injured player and the substitute continues to act as if he's carrying the same injury, why would we care about that bug when they've solved the Taiwan "problem" aren't EA a wonderful company?
What a total bunch of fvckwits they are, the sooner everyone realises what a joke this company is and stops buying from them so they go bust, then a proper software company can afford the licenses to make a decent football game for us.

Don't download the patch! It's just waste of time!!!!
It have over 500mb.....after update it , it just only replace the file in your computer, nothing was changed!
All the bugs still there, of course include the formation bug......

Hey guys. It is time to give up on EA.
Either keep playing good old games like FIFA RTWC 98 which is just as editable as FIFA 2002 and even a better and more enjoyable game or get yourself a copy of ePSXe and ISS Pro Evoultion 2 so you can play it on PC.

231 folders with 120MB of data !!!!!
NO JOKE! Its still loadin...must be WC2002 with all stadiums and chants and stuff, maybe they copied the FX-engine

For all of you still trying to download the update, YES it is possible. It looks like a matter of luck if you can or cannot download the update. I tried this morning (GMT +1 hour) to download it, but this failed, even after following all the good ideas in this forum. Now almost at midnight after one unsuccesfull attempt I had luck. The patch is downloading. It looks like it will cost more than 90 minutes with 128K ISDN. This must be big!
So my advice is keep trying. Do not forget to check the target in the shortcut. EA is not that smart so check the part after -dir. In my case the directory indicated here did not exist. It never has, so I changed it in the installation directory of FIFA 2002. Do not forget the double quotes (") around the path if it contains any rare characters as a space. If you have Win2K you need have administrator rights.
Some problems with the CASTANET error could be solved by changing the part after -url in the target. It should be exactly the same as the line in the file properties.txt in the .castanet directory in your FIFA 2002 instalation directory. In my case it ended in en. EA has a specific version for the Netherlands of FIFA 2002 (with Ruud van Nistelrooy on the cover), but does not recognize my country if it comes to downloads, technical support and registration. A nice way to earn a lot of money. You sell it and if anyone has a problem you only help them if they first register, which is only possible with my DUTCH version if you live in Germany, the UK or France. How nice. Maybe if I buy a french version I can register if I live in Italy, Spain or Sweden.
