OMG, I hope this isn't a serious injury :(:

Gagne sprains knee ligament

VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Los Angeles Dodgers closer Eric Gagne sprained a ligament in his left knee Thursday during the team's first full-squad workout of spring training, and will undergo an MRI exam.

Gagne didn't seem particularly concerned, but trainer Stan Johnston said the 29-year-old right-hander probably will have his activity limited for about a week. Johnston said the injury needs about six weeks to fully heal.

"Any time you hurt something, it's usually going to take that long," Johnston said. "We want to do a precautionary MRI to see what the damage is. It was hard to examine him because he was apprehensive at times."

Johnson said orthopedist Dr. David Schafer examined Gagne and thought the sprain was mild. When told Gagne had said he didn't expect to miss more than a day or two of work, Johnston replied: "Yeah, that's Gags."

Johnston said Gagne heard a pop when he was injured while playing pepper.

"It could just be an old piece of scar tissue," Johnston said, adding he wouldn't be able to say when Gagne would be able to pitch in an exhibition game until after the MRI exam.

"I turned around and a cleat got stuck," Gagne said. "I just twisted my knee a little bit. I'm not concerned. There's no swelling, and that's a really good sign. I don't want to start aggravating anything. It's early in camp."

Gagne has saved 152 games since 2002, a big-league record for saves in three straight seasons. He won the NL Cy Young Award two years ago, when he had 55 saves in as many chances. He was 7-3 with a 2.19 ERA and 45 saves last season.

"It makes you take a deep breath," Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. "Now, I'll want to hear what the results are. That's a really important piece, as we all know.

Gagne agreed earlier this month to a $19 million, two-year contract.

Reports say that he'll be back sooner than thought. Gagne said that the knee or wherever he strained it didn't swell up and that he could walk on it. The first reports said 6-8 weeks. Maybe Yhency could close it out if he had to

Yeah, they're saying he'll need about a week to be back at full strength, supposedly it was just a mild strain. I was fucking relieved to hear that. :p

If for ANY reason Gagne get hurt, you guys are done. You can kiss playoffs good bye if so.

Mistery of the day: HOW dominant can this man be in the AL?

We weren't going to make the playoffs anyway, at least that's what I think.

The same could probably be said about you guys and Unit, if he goes down, there goes the WS (if you get there of course). ;) :p

Looks like Smoltz is going to be the opening day starter.

On Sunday, Al Leiter discussed how he helped lure Carlos Delgado to Florida. And the lefty pitcher, an ex-Met, made it clear he did not badmouth his former team or New York.

Looking forward to seeing Delgado play, a big season for him with the Marlins.

We beat the Marlins 4-2 in our first Spring Training game. (H) Jayson Werth had to leave the game after he got hit in the left arm by an AJ Burnett fastball, x-rays were negative but there has to be some damage, Burnett's fastball is about 97-99 mph. :kader:

EDIT: Correction, Werth got hit on his right wrist, that's even worse. Supposedly its just a very bad bruise but we'll see.

Shit, I'll take any win we can get right now. I don't know what to expect this season so at least we got off to a positive start, too bad we struck out 11 times today. :nape:

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Mike Lowell laced a two-run single off Rick Bauer in the sixth inning as the Florida Marlins held on for a 3-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday at Fort Lauderdale Stadium.

The game was highlighted, however, by a mammoth home run from Sammy Sosa, who connected on a seventh-inning solo shot off right-hander Ronald Belisario. It was Sosa's spring debut, and he made his customary hop out of the batter's box after making contact.

Bauer (0-1) gave up the first two runs, allowing singles to Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo. His throwing error on an attempted pickoff moved both runners into scoring position. Lowell then lined a single to right field.

Erik Bedard, vying for the No. 3 spot in the starting rotation, pitched three solid innings, allowing two singles with one walk and two strikeouts.

Florida right-hander Brian Moehler, expected to fill the Triple-A Albuquerque rotation, allowed two hits in three frames and did not issue a walk or strikeout.

The Marlins added an insurance run in the eighth when catcher Ryan Jorgensen connected on a long RBI double off Orioles right-hander Dave Borkowski.

Bah, if the guy who was trying to turn the DP wouldn't have thrown the ball away, we would have won. :kader: :( Doesn't matter, I looked at the box score and we were pretty shit anyway.
