that's what I hope for every single time we play against them anyway, it's part of the rivalry....I can't get half as excited for a fixture against Sporting, it's just not there.

I know what you mean, really. Rivarly between Sporting and Porto is very soft compared to the Porto/Benfica and Sporting/Benfica ones, for historic reasons.

about the economics topic, only a total "leigo" will say having 30 million negative liquid results is even close to a raise in the passive.

A company can have 100.000.000€ of passive without any problem as long as they generate enough money to keep paying the yearly debts. On another side for instance another company that can't generate profits and has no passive is bankrupt, unless they get some money from the bank thus raising their passive and invest it in something so they can start generating profits.

The fact is that an increase of passive isn't something necessarily bad, and it's actually good if the company takes the money and invests it in something that generates bigger "receitas" that cover the debts that increase from that passive.

The negative results are much more worrying unless there were extraordinary reasons that led to such a loss, like paying "a pronto" something that you dont need to pay every year, but what do you pay instantly nowadays? I dont think this may be the case but I may be wrong.

About what someone said of Porto having these liquid results because of bigger investment on the football team, that's also not correct, unless you bought over 30M worth of players "a pronto" and sold none. You actually won the league and the cup last year. Are you expecting to win the CL every year and sell everyone to Chelsea?

In Benfica's case I'm much more worried with the possible loss of CL money from an early exit because it will hit the operational results and lower our liquid results a lot, which will probably makes us having to sell a player to cover the yearly debts.

I hope I made myself clear, this is not a Benfica's accounts are good and Porto's are bad, I don't have the necessary data nor I'm a specialist to make that assumption, I just tried to explain how things are, because these kind of numbers get tossed around in the papers a lot as tragedies at "TVI style".

Very good explanation! Thanks to you and otehrs for helping make some things clearer.

I'm not an expert on these subjects, in fact far from it, but I do have some notions and have read some interesting analysis on this. INFESTA, my post wasn't trying to say Benfica's finances are great and Porto's are awful. I also knew about the passive, but I didn't put it in here because I still hadn't seen the latest numbers, which thankfully you did and posted here.

My main point was that Benfica is actually taking positive steps in order to get into a better financial situation. Rest assured I do worry about our passive and I know our reality, but at least we managed to have a positive cash flow. Now, the future does worry me, especially without good CL money.

Now, if I was a Porto fan I would also be worried, especially with the incredible amount of spending the club has made after the two glory years with Mourinho, so much that even after not so long ago having sold several important players for good sums, they're now in the situation they're in, with a very high "fixed spending" that is bigger than the profits it has. Having a negative cash flow is a bad sign of the economical management of a company/club.

Today they were capable of choosing a ref that's neither Benficar nor FCPorto like: Lucilio Baptista!

This is the man who sent off Leo; this is the man that lately have been assigned to all FCPorto big games, the man who didnt point 4 penaltys in one game against Sporting!

WHY!?!?

Well, I am worried about our numbers, especially if you consider how much 'extra' money we made in the past 5 years in extraordinay player sales (thank you Chelsea) and UEFA grand prizes. But lets not forget that we're all paying brand new top stadiums and training facilities. To have that burden and still doing business as usual is a huge feat!

Now one thing has to be said which nobody talks about. In my personal opinion the accounting of all SAD's is a total joke. Como se pode calcular o activo de uma empresa baseando-se no valor dos jogadores!? Haverá algo mais subjectivo do que o preço de um profissional de futebol? O gajo amanhã parte a perna e lá se foi 60% do valor real do jogador.

RuiCosta_10: sorry mate, I read that first sentence of the text you quoted and skipped the rest. What a way to lose respect for someone right in the first sentence (not you - the guy who wrote that).

----------------------------------------

About Veiga, it's a bloody shame what he said. Come on, we don't need this guy around our football. 'A Bola' decided to go with it, and had one of the most embarrassing covers I've ever seen. Unless they decided to follow '24 Horas' style of journalism.

I was waiting for someone to mention the fact PdC once called Malheiro a 'papagaio'. For the record, I think that was poor too, although with 2 small differences: everything Veiga has ever said in public was a disgrace, and Malheiro was indeed a sort of 'papagaio' at the time. :p

Beira-Mar 3-3 Sporting FT

best match I've watched this season hands down.

Buba, a walking disaster, scored a hattrick today. ******* Legend (Y)

It's unbelieveble the way Sporting defece forgot Jardel on that play that lead to 2nd goal! He almost didnt jump! Even with his extra pounds he's a killer, they gave him one chance and produced a goal! And if Buba didnt score the 3rd, Jardel was right behind him ready to score!

Jardel is a legend! :lui:

One of the most exciting matches I've ever seen in our league. That game was the reason why we watch football.

When SCP scored their late goal I was thinking how unfair a loss would be to a team like Beira-Mar, and that at the very least they deserve to stay in the Primeira Liga. Fortunately, the commentator's prediction was correct ('I don't dare saying the match is already over') and we all ended up the game jumping up and down in our living rooms. Even the SCP fans should be glad, imho. (Y)

Yesterday Buba earned himself a spot in our collective memory, and I'm just happy to be able to love Jardel again.

we have to be careful with Benfica's left flank, Fucile attacks very well but is not paying enough attention in defense...
other than that we're having a good game, dispite these last minutes of the half.

less than 3-0 is a defeat :amika:

Porto are so f*cking lucky, not a single goal chance in the 2nd half and they actually win the game in a "ressalto"

Benfica is cursed.

not just that but the 1st goal was an incredible fluke, really Porto played well in the first half but this is just too damn lucky.
