well, that was the last chance Benfica had to beat United :P 2nd match Rooney will be around, and hopefully Silvestre, Keano etc.

congrats to Benfica, though, they're really starting to play some decent football, comparing to the first weeks...

Van der Sar was pretty decent too, no chance in the goal IMO. Scholes is over man, it's time for Fergie to face it. I rather play Miller... times like these I wonder if it was better to stick with Djemba Squared or Kleber***************...

I can't understand why u guys are saying Moreira did bad..
He miss judge a cross but is that enough to say he was horrible? he saved that Ronaldo kick to the crossbar too..

Oh, and there's one guy that said Van der Sar was the man to blame in benfica's goal...U have absolutely no clue about goalkeeping kid :ewan:

you really don't have a clue do you? VDS did everything right for that freekick, the wall had one side covered and he had the other. The freekick was hit superbly well round the wall and VDS did very well to get anywhere NEAR it.

EDIT - well said Goo Goo Boy, you beat me to it.

The freekick was near perfect, there is no way in hell you could blame van der Sar. It should have been a draw, but United pretty much controlled the game so I can't get these "What an undeserved win" posts.

I dont understand the whole "deserved to win" thing. If you win then you deserve to win, obviously, if a team has a barrage of chances, yet squanders all of them, they dont deserve to win because they can't take their chances.

Not to take anything away from you guys, because i could only hear Benfica fans singing in my tv, but you guys outsang rich Glazer lovers not united fans ;) . Still pretty impressive.

Man, no personal attack here, i didn't even know it was u who said it, i just wanted to make it fair to the gk..

You see, this free-kick was specially hard because Edwin couldn't see the ball before it was hit, and when he manages to see it, the ball is already in the penalty box, leaving the gk less than a second to react..

The FK was too near, there were too many guys in front of the ball and it was a superb shot..

With all this in mind, notice he still had this reaction in the half-second he had


Most gk's would simply stick their feet to the ground, and would only see the ball hitting the net..Edwin Van der Sar is THE gk, between posts :read:

Excellent post. As a keeper, those are the hardest free kicks, the ones where the ball isn't visible until it's past the wall. He made a great attempt, but the only way he would save that would be if he positioned himself there to begin with, which would be fairly pointless because he would be standing right behind the wall, and leave the far post wide open.

In my opinion, VDS hasn't put a foot wrong this season. If not for him, the game would have been 4-2 Benfica.
