Pauleta is a box striker, just like Trezeguet for us.
Pauleta is a great striker and believe me the defences in the Championnat are not so bad...But when he plays for PSG , Pauleta is assisted by the likes of Kalou, Rothen or Dhorasoo and he is the captain and the leading person.
That makes the difference. And Scolari is not the trainer Portugal deserves
I could reply to you on a French level....Why is Henry so good with Arsenal and so average with France ?

Ok ok i get the picture. But since Pauleta can´t perform the same way he performs in PSG, you have to understand our skepticism towards him. It´s always the same problem, he only scores when it doesn´t matter, against smaller teams. His performances in this WC were again frustrating.
Anyways i don´t want to crucify him. I´m pleased with my country´s performance in this WC, so i´ll give it a rest on my individual attacks.

Good luck Zizou and France! I'll be rooting for you in the finals. We fought to the very end, but France were just too good in defence. Now onto our next match. We will be without Carvalho which means we are in serious trouble against ze Germans. Hope we can get 3rd place, though.

Anyway, I'll spare everyone the usual comments and just say that I am very proud of my Portugal for fighting all the way to the semifinals.

Its good to see Zizou in the final...

I was expecting more from Portugal...

And Felipao cant react like that after every decision by the ref...!!! He is sending the wrong message to his players...

Argentina will have 2 players in the final... :$ :$ Maybe in 2010 we can put other 21 ;)

Yep and we always played much better when Pauleta wasn´t on. Even when Ronaldo was our forward. But i´ll give it a rest. I´m frustrated but i can´t really be mad at anyone. Im proud of our team. Perhaps with less emotion i can analyze this with a more lucid perspective.

I respect you Portugese fans for taking defeat in stride (Except for one moron.) You guys should be proud and have the possibility to finish 3rd, well done! You guys will definitely contend in Euro 08'.

First off, congrats to France.

Although we pretty much dominated the second half, luck just wasn't on our side today. I am still proud of our NT team for making it this far, but it hurts to lose a semi-final, especially on a penalty. When I saw Figo miss his header off of Ronaldo's free kick, I knew it just wasn't in the cards for us. As for the Pauletta substitution, it should have been done right at the beginning of the second half. I think we would have benefited by having someone take on as our second striker; at one point I saw Ronaldo playing a striker position in the last few minutes of the match, and that just can't happen. We should have utilized the flanks alot more on our attacks.

I have a feeling Italy is going to teach France a football lesson, especially if they play the way they did yesterday.

One can only shake his head and agree with that statement. How ironic is it that our top goal scorer, only scored one goal this entire tournament, yet has surppased to scored more goals than Eusebio to become our top goal scorer.

Almost seems impossible. (:/)

almost there...it's always almost... (:/)

the game was balanced overall, i think Portugal would deserve at the very least a goal. the penalty seems to be a good call by the ref.

but i can't say that i'm not happy, we got to the last four. if before the start of the WC, someone would say to me that Portugal would get this far i would say "yeah right...". think about it, out of 32 teams we are in the top four.
i'm also happy because once again we sent the English gigantic ego and confidence down the pipe! that moment worths as much as winning the WC :corn:
and for those who say we were the underdogs, i'll just remember them that we ended Euro2004 in 2nd...in some cases, your NT was unable to get past the group stage.

a word about our players:

+

Ricardo - owned the english! get a statue for this guy (i never thought i would say this one day). even today, he almost (again, almost...) saved Zidane's penalty.

Ricardo Carvalho - the life insurance of our team. He just proved he is as good as i thought.

Figo - he may not be able to keep up the pace during the 90 minutes, but he showed that he still had a lot to give to our NT.

-

Pauleta - :-puke: (i think this pretty much resumes what i feel about him...)

Postiga - it's amazing how a player can suck so much, and yet play in a WC! he didn't show anything, and he had the chances for that. Nuno Gomes would love to have the same chances, and he would do better i know it.

Scolari - brought us this far, and also to the final of Euro2004, and for that i thank him very much. he knows how to build a team, and i mean a TEAM. it's not just a bunch of otherwise good players, but above all a group that is also a familly. that sure makes things easier in the pitch.
the bad part, it's his stuborness. playing Pauleta and Postiga are excelent examples of that, they were 0 this WC. Pauleta scored goal, that's right...against Angola. and then he vanished, evaporated into thin air. playing with him, was like playing with one player less...
to finish, i think Scolari should leave, at least he would leave like a hero. we, portuguese thank him very much but it's time to change the chapter.

now on to the final of the poor next saturday. i don't really care much about that game....

I was almost with you up to that point

I am sure after tonight's Olympic Diving show, we won't be the only team that people are glad to see the back of.

We deserved to go out, no question. But unfortunately, so did you.

I think it's time for a new chapter too. Scolari did well for us, all in all.... but it would be nice to see a new Portugal. Scolari essentially just milked Mourinho's Porto team, I think that's why he always insisted on calling Costinha, Postiga, and others...even Maniche when he was at his lowest form still went to the NT.

I'd like to see some of the other promising young guys get their chance, not the glamor-types like C. Ronaldo, but the hard workers like Manuel Fernandes, Moutinho, etc.. I really miss the attractive technical football we used to play, like during the golden-generation days. Things always seemed a lot more cautious and conservative under Scolari (but I guess we got results, so who knows)

It was clearly a foul, Henry fell to actually get it called.

Yeh there is no question about the contact, i would or prefered to see Henry stand up and put it into the corner which im sure he would of done if he was playing for Arsenal
