True, I think Matt needs to let people have their opinions and he can have his, but if he doesn't want your review on the website, what can you do?

I wrote a review, but Matt told me that they already have an Xbox review, which I think was over rated, so I thought having 2 opinions on the same format would give the buyer the feeling that it's not gods gift and that people don't actually like it as much as others do...but I do like it, I just don't think it's brilliant.

If Soccer Gaming will only post reviews that praise the game, then f*ck it, cause people are not getting the right treatment...so, Joe, if YOU feel the controls get 0/10 then so be it, if YOU think the gameplay gets 5/10 then so be it, cause THAT'S YOUR OPINION and no one has the right to say "you are wrong". :) Matt said it doesn't seem factual, well...a review score isn't factual and never will be, it might be a fact that the review is about a football/soccer game, but the score is totally and utterly the reviewer’s opinion. :)

You're right Joe, websites praise the game too much, we need to tell EA what for, even if we like the game, cause we need to get the same level of detail in the gameplay as the other EA games do!!

Nick Clubman.

Unbelievable! I think I actually agree with Nick Clubman for once!!! :o

MY opinion is that there have been a few improvements here and there but Fifa2003 still sucks overall. I can proudly say I didn't buy this game after renting it for a few days.

Looking forward to WTS2003 & Winning Eleven 6 in North America :)

You can argue about Joe's review but he's just giving his opinion.
You have to respect that.

But on the other hand I don't understand why Matt is letting Joe write a review in the first place when he knows he's not going to post it if it doesn't comply with the opinion of his website.

It's like letting people vote between two party's, and if party one wins it's ok, but if party two wins the election, it doesn't count.
I feel it's because many websites praise the game becuase they want to keep a good relationship with EA, EA are never really pressured to actually make the game good.

As for the actual game.
The controls are a bit buggy but if you get the hang of it you can play a good match of football and have some fun with it.
If you have 22 shots on goal against 2, and the score is 1-1, there's obviously something wrong with your aim. :)

I'd give the game around a 7.

Graphics and sound are nice as always.
Gameplay has improved but controls hamper it.

FIFA2004 will probably fix all this and they'll take out something like the Commentary and the Spanish and English leagues so they still have something to fix in FIFA2005. :)

Well, I think that when a game sucks like this, when there are so many errors with so many grafix cards, and when the game is so expensive like FIFA, there's no other choice than warez....
I'll not talk about warez because I don't wish to be banned, but... I'm certainly not going to buy an EA's game anymore. This is the last time I did it.
I don't have any intention to make EA win money if they don't retrieve that in some way, I mean, why do I have to give them MY money if I don't get anything back... I have no fun with my Nvidia TNT2 video card, the grafix sucks.... and the gameplay too...

And one of the things I hate most is that they've changed everything in the game, so we can't edit it as before, everything requires a new study...
In the end of FIFA 2002 I was starting to make some great popups, in FIFA 2003 I have to study how do they work, also with the kits, and faces, and stadiums, everything!!!!!
Other thing that I hate is that in THIS forum and Soccered's there are THREADS like LET'S GIVE SOME FEEDBACK TO EA.... well.... WHY???? they didn't give us a fùck better than the last games, but that's not the worst part, they've also changed every format to piss us off.... so?? WHY must we give them feedback?? OH WELL, because EA visits their forums!!!!!!!! that's the only reason, so EA gets happy after a poor-quality job!!!!

What about the poor guy that doesn't know the forums, or SoccerAccess or anything, and got into the EA's website, saw that video cards such as NVIDIA TNT2 are supported ingame, and that will appreciate numbers, names, and other details ingame, then that guy went to a shop to buy the video card, because is cheap and he has no money for a better one, thinking that he's going to see a great game with his new video card, and after all the guy gets VERY deceptionated, because the video card doesn't support some great details, when in the OFFICIAL website they say that those video cards ARE supported... yeah, they're supported but, those video cards don't support EVERYTHING in the game as they said....

Welll, I could continue all the day, and night, and day, and so on... but I don't want to waste the time with theese swindlers.....

it's obvious that this is just MY opinion, isn't it?

See ya!

i just want to say one thing to everyone that complains about buying the game.. we all got to play the demo, for 3 weeks.. if you still bought the game, then you can not blame EA for it.
I bought the game, and I am enjoying it and having fun playing, the best game since fifa '98 in my opinion

Well aint it funny, when the game first came out i played it for about a week solidly on Ps2 and i came on here and told people of all the problems i found, most of which have been mentioned here, and i got ****in slated for it with comments like "go practice' and "it's the best game yet etc" and needless to say Matt was one of the first to hack me down. I think matts comments have something to do with lets just say early EA freebies before it ever gets released so he has to be nice. Joe full marks mate i know its your opinion but i would say its a fair point and a fair review, anyone noticed the penalties in the game? The goalie is standing fully 5-10 yards off his line, just watch next time. I'm trading my copy in i have had enough all the goals are the same, the cpu always scores low, never a 25 yard belter or anything. In fact i picked up Fifa 2002 in the bargain bin for ps2 and although not perfect or more graphically brilliant it does play better with the passing and curling.

Joe your just not good enough yet, simple as that. Ok my opinion... I have hated the last 3 years of fifa. and WC 2002 sucked. Minus the curving passes which I love. This is the BEST fifa since 98 if not ever. It has MANY small bugs and problems, and all of them I can work around , in WORLD CLASS.... I'm in my second full season in WC with Middlesbrough, and I went the champ. league final, and got 3rd place in the league. This year I'm 8-1-1. So I find WC real, and fun. ( after 4 seasons of the game, 2 at pro) There are many improvements need of course, but all the work they did to get the ball off the feet and game play back.. I give respect and hold them to a very high standard next year.. gameplay improvements, and (listen EA) a FRANCHISE MODE, like EVERY EA game. That would make that much better and give it more longevity. My Scores:

Graphics 8.5/10
Sound 9/10
Gamplay 7/10
Controls 7/10 (the right stick controling moves and knock ahead is great, the heading stinks)

IMO Joe is not good enough and he can't play it well, he gets frustrated which ends up in here whining. It is a great game Joe. I wasn't good enough too and it was frustrating and all that, but I was patient enough to give it another chance, guess what I am enjoying it cause it really plays like real soccer, it does, it does.

Matt: in your review, just give the game an overall of 7.5 and say what you like in the review and for each individual score.

Joe: I can't. It doesn't deserve a 7.5. Maybe a 6.5, would be a bit more suiting. And the only thing I really like is the sound and graphics.

Matt: as i say, i wouldn't put it up on my site if it got a 6.5.

Joe: OK. Then you won't put it on your site.

Matt: so in future review games will go to other people.

Joe: Just remind me not to be such a bitch on censorship when I get into the media in five years or so.

Matt: and you'd rather not put it up at all than give it a 7.5?

Matt: its defnitely the last time im sending you a game then.

Joe: ok

I don't know how this is really immature--unprofessional maybe. I just don't like censoring. This is what people hate about the media and you're just proving their point more: "Let's just show the people what I want them to see."

(I'll most likely be sacked after this one--meh.)

It's not worth putting up your opinion when somebody is giving you one.

Now Joe is even posting ICQ history of conversations between me and him (I've obviously deleted that part). I thought Joe was a bit more mature than this, guess he still hasn't grown up.

But this topic is quickly becoming ugly and is heading straight towards an arguement. I think everyone has stated their opinion so i'll close it as I don't want any unecessary arguements starting.

Why "obviously deleted?"

It's not immaturity, it's being unprofessional, and in the same manner, I'm acting the way you are.

Matt, so, in effect, you are scared that SG won't get future priveleges from EA of reviews of games, beacuse of potential bad press it will get?

That's pathetic, Joe is perfectly entitled to his right to criticise whatever aspect of the game, because if nobody did then EA would still think that the community adores their game and would churn out the same old dross each year. Its almost like SG is acting as a mouthpiece :kader:

sorry but Joe is perfectly correct here.

I'm not at all saying that Joe can't have his opinion.

Here is what I've said 1000 times already.

Soccer Gaming is my website, therefore, what is put on MY website has to be a refelction of what I feel is correct. I do not feel 6/10 for FIFA 2003 is correct. Therefore, since it is my website and I choose what I publish on it, I have decided that a review which gives FIFA 2003 6/10 is not something which I wish to publish on my site.

This is why I opened this forum back in 1997. I opened it for people to post their opinions. So this is where Joe (as he has, and I have no problem with that) can post his opinions.

So once again I'll say it for those who have missed it, Joe can have his opinion, Joe can give FIFA 2003 whatever review score he wants. As to whether I want to post it on my website I'm afraid is completely my choice, and on this occasion I have decided not to post it on my site purely because I do not agree with the score Joe has given the game. At the end of the day, when someone owns and runs a website, it has to come down to them when there is a decision on what is posted on the site.

I'm not saying I don't respect all the great help the mods and news reporters do, there contribution is terrific.

Joe, Jambo, if you guys run a website, I'll never tell you what to post on it. I'll always take advice but there is no need for you to tell me what to post on my website either.

Obviously deleted because I don't like my personal conversations posted. The conversation was between you and me, not everyone else who visits this forum.

It is not unprofessional to not post an incorrect review. I say your review is incorrect because a score of 6/10 suggests, to anyone who has read reviews in their time, that the game is utter sh!t.

I read reviews, and as soon as I see a score of 6 or worse I know a game is a pile of sh!t, and I don't even bother with the rest of the review.

FIFA 2003 is not the world's greatest game, but it is certainly not a pile of sh!t. Giving the game a 7.5/10 (like i suggested) shows that the game is far from excellent (a score of 8.5 or 9 is for excellent games) but still shows that it is a quality game, but can do with quite a bit of improving, as you would have mentioned in your review.

I dont think anyone minds you not wanting to have it on your site, because like you said you are the webmaster and you chose what's on it. Noone is arguing with that.

It's more the reasons behind you being against having it on the site, those reasons are unclear to us

Matt, its basically as we see it the only way the FIFA gaming community can get accross their views, becuase its pain-stakingly obvious EA does not read the forums, or if they do, its an annual visit for 30 seconds. Maybe criticism in a form of a review will give EA the proverbial boot up the backside and make a game worth the price.:)

Jambo,

I understand your concern, I can see you're saying that EA need a wake up call and a harsh review from SG could be the answer. However, not an incorrect review.

Regarding EA reading the forums. I know for an absolute fact that the developers and programmers read them atleast 2-3 each day. Some of the head programmers at EA even knew more of the members in there than I do. When we were doing the EA SG Chat thing at EAC, some of the programmers were like "hey, lets reply to that guys, he is always posting"... "or, "lets reply to this guy cos he is a big PES fan and would want us to reply" and stuff like that. The programmers knew all the major members and their personalities. Yes, it surprised me too, but it proves they read the forums, and they read them well. EA have some kind of contract with them though, which doesn't allow them to post unfortunately.

K-man, as for my reason, I think I explained it in my other posts. I'm not refusing to post the review because I have some "secret" relationship with EA. EA would still send out review copies regardless of whether or not we gave the game a good review or not. My reason is, as I stated just 2-3 posts ago, that a game that gets 6/10 resembles a game that is a piece of sh1t. FIFA 2003 is not the world's best game, but it is not a piece of sh1t. It deserves the kind of mark that a game which is good but flawed in some aspects should receive, that being a 7.5.

I offered for Joe to send me his review, he could say anything in his review, just as long as the score was changed to 7.5. He refused. I don't think I was unfare.

Matt, Junior ... Calm down :)

this is a review, its an opinion.

Matt will correct me if i am wrong, but the opinion he wants posted is one that will in his opinion reflect the game.
