It should be Káká, Messi has just now come on at the end of the season while Kaka has had a great year from start to finish.

You could make a case for Riquelme as well who led Boca to the Libertadores win and Argentina to the final of the Copa America.

How come there are no Sevilla players on the list? Kanoute?? He had a hell of a year. I like the idea of the award but I hate the fact that they come up with a list and then decide out of that list.

I agree with all three points, especially the latter. Mind you Sevilla have started like a pile of tosh this season.

To me it's like this and don't argue with me i dont care how all of you think it should be.
Even though i'm a Milan fan, i think Ronaldino correction i know Ronaldinho is the best player in the world, ever, Period! And that c.ronaldo is nothing but a showoff who's play is appealing only to kids who don't see football, and think that flashy moves show how good a player is, there's a whole level of football above that!
The difference is that Ronaldinho has that, the vision, the football intelligence and creativity, and even after that when Ronaldinho dribbles he brakes the spines of the defenders and always goes past his man, which cannot be said about c. ronaldo, go to youtube watch any of his many compilations, but now watch it in a different way, watch how far does he get,and you'll see that he rarely goes past the defender even, he goes right-left and the defender is there with him all the time!
Now when i'm talking about ronaldinho i am taking his whole career into consideration cause current form doesn't say who's the best player it says who had the best year, here i am talking about the best players (of course currenty on the pitch although in my opinion in alltime Ronaldinho still beats Pele's and even Maradona's ass!)

So for me the list is this

1 - Ronaldinho (He is Football)
2 - Kaka' (Phenomenal Playmaker)
3 - Messi (outstanding - the kid is the next maradona - although i think he'll surpass him)
4 - Eto'o (Never seen a better striker in my life - has everything, and makes more assist than any striker)
5 - Drogba (A more simple striker, but a great one has everything - he'll score when you least expect it)
6 - Fabregas (Goddamit! The kid is 20 and has something that only zidane had, perfect vision, great creativity, outstanding inteligence!! What will he become, one of the best ever, maybe not as flashy as one cr7 but put him in your team and you'll be winning and playing some of the best football on the planet)
7 - O.k. here he is C.Ronaldo nad if everyone put him at his right place i woudn't have to be so harsh, truth is he did change from a player that was obviously so childish when he first came to manutd, to a player we see now, ferguson is doing a great job with him, and i think that in few years when he goes past a few things and outgrows them we'll watch a great player and undoutebly he will be in the top three, but for now he's still a long way of taking messi, kaka or ronaldinho from those places (For me he will never succede, but that's just me).

Cheers!

I can summarise that in the 3 words. " I hate Ronaldo"...

Who do you think deserves to be the winner ?????

Post your winner and we will decide our winner here at SG...

The ones in bold should be nominees and the other should not. Eto'o, Nesta, Henry, Thuram barely played. Viera, Deco, Cannavaro, Marquez didn't do much, Buffon played in Serie B.

The ones I predict to be top five are underlined.

I think the European player of the is more prestigous tbh.

World Player of the Year???

How can anyone take seriously this award when

Henry scored 3 good goals, got injured for the rest of the season, left for barca, scored a hat trick, and that’s all has done this year.

Vieira was injured for most of the season

Cannavaro was just plain sh*t all season long

Buffon who has been playing in SERI B!!!! (says it all)

Eto'o who was again injured for most of the season, didn't make too much impact even when coming back plus is INJURED AGAIN NOW

Thuram hardly played much for Barca

Torres who did hardly anything worth mentioning before he left Atletico to go to liverpool

Deco who every Barca fan has moaned hes had a really poor season

and Riquelme, Marquez, Lahm, they have all had a good year but seriously there are 40 players who have definitely done better than him this year.

WHERE THE HELL ARE: Fabregas, Totti, Zlatan, Daniel Alves, Alfonso Alves, Berbatov, Carragher, Quaresma and even Materazzi

I'd say even players like Mario Gomez, Adebayor and James McFadden (scored MANY important and classy goals this year) should be in the list.

I can see it all now

Sepp Blatter: “Oh sh*t, its world player of the year, I forgot, I have to draw the nominations tomorrow. I’ve been so busy liking the arse of fat cats so they keep giving me my money it’s passed me by

Ok here is last years, err lets take out Zidane since he’s retired, put someone else there, ahhh its done. Nobody will notice :)”

kaka should win, followed by drogba and messi

i cannot see how that says it all, it's a very poor argument..

just shut up and dont reply to my posts

whats your problem, you see i have made a good point but yet you choos to ingonre it and pick out one thing that was bad

Buffon hasan't been outstanding this season, and has been playing some teams who are about as big as some conference(or the blue square premier now) and yet hes been nominated above some like Alfonso Alves who has currently scored 41 goals in the 33 he has played for an argubly midtable dutch team

You're right Snopp, Buffon has been playing in Serie B, it does say it all. Maybe just not in the way you're thinking it does...

He won the golden boot. I hate the guy, but that alone should put him on the list.

True, that should pretty much seal your ticket. If being Europe's top scorer doesn't guarentee that you're in the running then what does? (C)
