Let me get this straight. I got a playstation 2, if I buy the fliptop + swap disk will I be able to play that game? I mean how does it work? Do I still need to mod my PS2? Thanks in advance ;)

lol.. nice one...

jumbo, once you've played the game for a while and have a minute, can you please answer the following:

-- are there as many annoying ref decisions as in PES?
-- what about the speed of the defenders. realistic?
-- do CPU attackers pull lame tricks like in PES (specifically the run-to-groundline-turn-180-degrees-cross-in-bulls.hit)
-- is there a noticeable progressive AI (please not...)
-- how does the game feel in terms of CPU bias. fair? scripted? cheating?
-- BTW, how many difficulty levels are there

thanks, mate

From looking at a few of the videos and screenshots (some of the videos don't work) this game looks like a real challenger to the Konami franchise.
If I wanted to get this game (which I really want to actually) what would I have to do exactly?
Get my PS2 modded?
Flip top thing? How does that work?
Is the game also in english or not?
Any info on how I can play this game is much appreciated, this should keep me busy 'till PES4!

I just don't like the name of the game...Football Kingdom, it's not some anime RPG is it!?

-- no, they blow when you actually cut someone down or some ****. not like in WE where you don't have to press a button to foul someone...
-- what you mean? you mean how fast the defensive line moves, reacts or the individual players' speeds?
-- nah. they pass and cross here a lot because whenver you attack the opposite team quickly moves back to their half and defend like mofos.
-- what you mean?
-- really hard to answer this question. there's no game that wouldn't be scripted but if you're like talkin about AI doing the same stuff over and over OR limited to something than no. No cheating.

thanks for the replies...

-- i was referring to the infamous PES CPU defender speed advantage. Crap like Stam easily chasing down Henry on the wing.

-- i was referring to PESs "learning" AI, which makes it progressively harder to play and score against the CPU. i was wondering if one could tell already whether FK had a similar device (which i hope it doesn't)

add one more question. very important though:

-- do CPU players show fatigue (IOW, unlike in PES, do they get slower in late stages of the game)?

thanks again. take your time with the replies... i am sure you got more interesting stuff to do... (/:cringes in envy)

Namco seems to have created some excitement in our little WE community. Summary, from what I've read to date:

1. Impressive effort from Namco.
2. Passing, crossing, shooting, and game flow is pretty damn good.
3. Defense AI might be a problem area.
4. Everybody digs dem nets.
5. Better than FIFA/TIF, not yet WE territory.
6. A different footy experience than WE -- a perfect game for those temporarily burned out on WE.

I'm waitin' for the 14- and 30-day test. Will this game continue to be interesting in one month's time.

Is the euphoria due to the quality of the game itself, or is it due to WE gamers being burned out and finally having another footy game to play while waiting for WE8?

In the meantime, congrats to Namco -- I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Seabass' team studios as they check out this title. I wonder what they're thinking?

Here is my mini review of the game:
Fist off, if you prefers graphics over gameplay this game is NOT for you. The player models are satifactory but NAMCO could do a lot better. If you can get past the fact that Rio Ferninand is the only line judge in the game, then you can appreciate the game.
Though NAMCO proclaimed that the game is a pure simulation, I found it to be a mixture of a simulation and arcade. Not that it is a bad thing. If anything, this adds the FUN factor to the game.
The controls for the game is very similar to WE/PES. So if you have played WE/PES games, it is not hard to play Football Kingdom despite the Japanese texts.
The Positives:
1. The passing and FK system in this game are amazing. The yellow directional cursor on the ground is a very nice feature. This is quite useful when you want to know exactly where you are passing, crossing or shooting the ball to. You can cross or lob a pass into space. So you have total freedom of where to pass, cross and shoot to.
The FK system is very simple and effective. Being endorsed by one of the world best freekick taker (Shunsuke Nakamura), NAMCO really implement this feature well in the game. You can feel how freekick takers like Beckham bent the ball in the goal. KONAMI and EA could learn or implement something similar.
2. Animations are also well done. The running animations are better then WE/PES. The net animations is probably the best out there. But it is really repetative. There should be more variety in the animation.
3. Player's runs are nice. But I found them to be a bit much and unrealistics. Every players seems to be making these kind of runs regardless of what position he plays. Certainly while it is possible that every player in real life can make runs, there are no differentiations between a player who know how to make smart runs and a player who don't. But overall, it is still a nice feature.
3. The penalty kick system is also very well done. Much better than both FIFA and WE/PES.
4. There are limited feints but you can pull off some amazing stuff. Especially when you make a defender look like a clown when he tries to slide tackle you.
5. The diving feature is a really nice touch. While it is there, NAMCO make it hard to pull off. You have to pressed both L1 and L2 at the same time.

The Negatives:
1. The AI in this game is atrocious. Well at least on the default setting since I don't know Japanese. The CPU defenders sometimes would slide tackle you even though you are no where near them. The goalie seems to stay one position, the middle of the box. He never comes to collect a ball in the box even though you are a good few yards away.
2. While the graphics are decent, they could use a lot of improvements. I don't know what graphics engine NAMCO is using but they need to upgrade in this department.
3. More clubs teams and player's faces would help. Seeing Rio Ferninand as line judge cracks me up everytime. I guess it was NAMCO's way of having fun at Rio's expense. He can't play so we will make him a line judge.
4. Guess what? There are no ref on the pitch. I guess it must be a Japanese thing.

Having played about 10 games or so, I would say that Football Kingdom is only second best to WE/PES. It is a great first effort by NAMCO. Being a Japanese developers, NAMCO will put pressures on KONAMI to upgrade WE inefficiencies. FIFA was never that big in Japan and KONAMI does not have many competitors in their own backyard. Football Kingdom will pose a serious threat to KONAMI. Maybe this is the reason why KONAMI is so quiet about WE8. They want to see what Football Kingdom is about first. This is a good thing for us footie fans. I hope both NAMCO and KONAMI will both compete to make real footie games.
What does this tell you about EA's effort for the past few years? They are not in it to make a real simulation game that challenge the gamers. I have no doubts that they have the resources. But EA's philosophy will always be "easy and pickup gameplay" targeting the mass general public. I don't see them changing it any time soon as long as sales are doing well.
I for one am looking to Football Kingdom II.

After spending several hours with this game, here is my two cents:
Well i must say that after my first 2-3 games i was kinda dissappointed with this title(i was all hyped up about it after watching the videos and reviews) but the more i played, the more i understood what its all about. In terms of gameplay this game puts FIFA\TIF far behind(which is kinda sad considering that this is NAMCO`S first try at soccer games, while fifa has been running for over a decade) but its not yet PES\WE matirial. Some of the strong sides of the gameplay is its overall fluid feel, the through passes which are a very integral part of the game and the good crosses. On the down side we have the not-too-impressive computer defence AI and sometimes also the computer`s GK AI,also the animations are overall good but you start to feel somewhat a lack of animations after your first 15 games.
All in all i recommend this game for every we\pes fan out there, its refreshing and its simply fun.

Good reviews people.

I can't stop playing this game. It's just so awesome. Like V-9 said -> Arcade + Sim. For me, that's the best mix you can get. The game is fast, fun, easy to pick up and at the same time, pretty deep and immersing.

Looking foward to FK2 as well.

I totally love the freedom of movement and passing that you get in this game.

No pass or cross is drawn to a certain player by an invisible force (ex. crosses in WE) like in other games. No, the ball is free to go whereever depending how it's kicked.

The attacks down wings that you can pull off in this game are amazing.

I just had Sheva hit an awesome diving header. It was like this: I send Micolli long down the right wing, he SMOKED the defenders, I press O + Left Analog Stick to curl the ball. The ball went like this ) than I took control of Sheva, ran in the direction of the ball and bam []. - a low, boucin div. header. Goalie deflected it though.

Awesome. The game is miles ahead of FIFA's and **** like that and not far behind WE in terms of gameplay.

I actually like FK better. :mrpimp: Haven't touched my patched WE7IJ in longggg time.

Peace!

EDIT: I'll post some gameplay screens later.
