I just had Sheva hit an awesome diving header. It was like this: I send Micolli long down the right wing, he SMOKED the defenders, I press O + Left Analog Stick to curl the ball. The ball went like this ) than I took control of Sheva, ran in the direction of the ball and bam []. - a low, boucin div. header. Goalie deflected it though.
did you mean "curling ball from action" ? would be awesome news, that feature what WE doesn't have...

and could you finally answer my question:
does it have heelflip trick?
thanx ;)

it looks like this gif below

another small revievs for those who are banned from evoweb or just don't want to register there:
originally posted by Ike at evoweb

played the game last night, i must say i'm quite surprised. it's better than i expected. some pros and cons so far:

+ good flow of the game
+ the annoying yellow aiming marker can be turned off
+ 16 running directions
+ good animations (eg. keeper) that connect well most of the time
+ nice goal nets
+ automatic in-game replay: ability to move the camera around the player in 16 steps, 3 angles, zoom in/out
+ offside replay: a yellow line moving with the last player, when the ball is played, the line turns red
+ players and ball feel quite solid
+ nice tricks to pull off with R1, L2
+ analog passing and crossing
+ short substitution animation
+ animations for bookings, animations for warnings!
+ linesman offside animation
+ more in-game statistics (assists/goals of the player that scored, both involved persons of a foul shown etc.)
+ good commentary flow, says a lot of names too
+ more exciting penalty system, not as static as in WE
+ no obvious (game balance) bugs yet

- overall too fast
- graphics overall not as good as we (models, textures, stadia)
- players slightly float over the pitch
- goal replay: 16 steps, 3 angles also, replay runs in a loop (no pause)
- shooting could be better (eg. low powerful shots)
- keepers maybe too good on the line
- 'offside', 'time up' shown on screen
- headers seem too easy
- crowd interaction is sparse
- only 3 zoom modes, 3 height angles, the angle-feature from WE is missing
- short celebration sequence when winning a cup
- only about 8 player values (0-100)

overall, it's not as arcady as i thought, i didn't score many goals, and that was on normal difficulty. FK does a lot of important things right that i always missed in WE, esp. the analog passing and crossing. where in WE the border between having the ball and not having it seems too strict, FK feels more open, the transition is more gentle.

if WE is 9, i'd give Football Kingdom a solid 8. it's definitely the second best football game out there, and a solid base to build a real contender for WE on.

so, fairplay pleaseTM!
;)

also some gameplay movies

Ok, a treat for those that have not played it...

These are replays all from a World Cup game on Easy setting. So don't be too put off if it looks too easy. You'll need DivX to watch them.

These aren't supposed to be stunning goals or anything, just a taster for JFlores and co. :D

Some nice control with a strange (glitchy) turn:
Control 1

Stunning ball control but again the turn looks odd:
Control 2

Lovely free pass:
Free Pass 1

Great finish (Robbie Keane, i think):
Goal 1

Another Robbie classic (remember this is Easy setting :) ) with nice net ripple:
Goal 2

Another good finish. Check out the net!
Goal 3

Headed goal by the CPU:
Header 1

Well worked free kick by the CPU. Great save:
Save 1

Great ball, great control, poor effort:
Shot 1

Good tackle and pass...
Tackle 1

...followed by a shot that hits the post!

wow, where did this game come from???

It's really pretty good, not quite as good as WE7i(j) but an excellent first stab and definitely has the potential to offer a genuine threat to KCET's gameplay crown.

Some aspects are better than WE7i(j) but there are definitely areas which need to be worked on.

Great to finally have another footy game worth playing.

DAY 3

Let me just start off by saying this: Amazing game. Today, I've discovered a whole buncha things in this game. 1. Like someone said, the game isn't too fast or too slow, how it's played is totally up to the player. Yesterday I was playing using the long balls non-stop. Today, I started dribbling in the middle of the field and when running down the wings. Totally different experience. 2. I saw at least 3 types of volleys and at least 3 header animations (something that WE doesn't have and should add in WE8). 3. You can actually fumble the shots! And I really mean fumble! In WE7, you can only fumble if I def attacks you while shooting, here, you fumble, if your player hits the ball with the wrong part of the foot [the idea of: wrong place at wrong time] (something that WE doesn't have and should add in WE8).

FINAL THOUGHTS

I still can't believe how people say this game is "wank" or "far behind WE." Simply not true. They either didn't spend much time with the game or are aware of this and try to defend their beloved WE.

If I were to make a list of 1. things that I like better in FK and 2. things that I like better in WE, the list #1 would surely be longer.

I could give a couple of diff examples but here's a good one: WE, in my opinion lacks the dynamics of football. The game is kinda slow. FK can be both slow and fast. If you just pass the ball around back and forth it'll be slow but then, you send a guy down the wing, he starts pullin off crazy tricks and the action gets a lot faster, more intense, like in real life. Hell, you can't dribble in WE, so it's probably a bad example. :-$

In the end, I'm glad as hell I bought this game. I don't find it boring at all. Everytime I play I see something new. Today, I actually managed to score some break away goals. One was sweet. I was in the PK, pushed out to the end line. Started running towards the goal and pressed Square. Shevchenko curled (lol, don't tell anyone you can curl the ball in this game) the ball over the goalie and into the net. It was ultra sweet.

PEACE!

Football Kingdom 2 will rule.

I took KONAMI 10 years to get to where they are today. Took NAMCO 1 try to come close to WE and even outdo it in some aspects.

It can only get better. :D

hehehe, the game *must* be good indeed, if you dare to make such heretic a statement.

hard to really build a valid opinion based on a bunch of short movie clips, but i have the feeling that there is already a ton of small things i can see there which are simply not possible in PES. it feels much freer and less constrained as the latter.

Specifically the way how the ball behaves around the players foots and how it behaves midair, how it is headed makes PES physics look rather inferior (not to mention the net physics)

one thing though irritates me, and that's the defensive behavior. in a couple of those clips defenders clearly make silly runs away from the ball-possessing attacker. hope these clips are not level3.

simakperrce,

I have a similar opinion of WE/PES to you (I agree about all the cpu cheating and other problems)

My opinion of FK is that it is more simplistic then WE.

Yes, there are aspects of the gameplay which are better - in particular, the freedom of passing, more directions to move you players, better player runs, the ability to move a man off-the ball, much better referees so you are allowed to tackle with risking red card every time, and various other things which I prefer over WE.

But it lacks the depth of WE. There just isn't the same variety of play. It lacks the detailed and intricate gameplay that WE offers. The shooting system is pretty one-dimensional compared with WE, you don't get those amazing passages of play in tight penalty areas with balls defelcting all over the place.

The goalkeepers are terrible. They can make saves (sometimes completely unrealistic saves) but have no presence or initelligence in their box. Eg, they don't come out for loose balls in the box but just wait for an attacker to run on to it.

The animations and physics when players come shoulder to shoulder are poor and the feeling of being involved in a tussle in those situations in WE is lacking in FK. It is not a "physical" game in midfield the way that WE is. Your players seem to "float away" from the tussle rather than get stuck in.

It also seems to lack the tactical depth of WE.

Worst of all is the cpu cheats. When you press the button to change control to a different player, you find you don't always get control immediately, like he is sleeping and takes a second to wake up to your control. But worse still is when he changes direction completely, eg. I play a perfect through-pass and as my guy running onto the ball passes the last defender, the cpu realises I am clean through on goal so my guy suddenly takes 3 steps backwards so he is behind the last defender again. I could hardly believe it when I first saw this happen - it reminded me so much of the worst aspects of WE, but even worse :( . I have seen it happen a few times now and it's very disappointing.

There's also some weird slow-motion at certain moments such as kick-off or when the goalie drops the ball to kick it - it happens in slo-mo and can cause problems.

Somehow, scoring goals in FK doesn't feel so satisfying as in WE. Goals come more easily in FK but there isn't such a great variety.

Winning doesn't feel like an achievement.

I haven't seen the famous WE cpu speed cheat where all the cpu defenders can run faster than all your guys but when you sprint down the wing, the sprinting is just too much faster than normal running - looks weird and is too effective.

It's a good game and has potential to be great but at the moment, it's probably no better than PES1.

Most worrying is seeing such obvious cpu cheats - perhaps not as much cheating as in WE7 (eg at least the ref's seem fair) but the cheating is certainly very obvious.

aqua,

thanks for your comments. as i am not having FK and neither WE (i got PES3) i guess most of my comments are wishful thinking.

i won't deny that i might probably be disappointed of FK, especially with fancying things ahead, but in a way i take jumbos word for it. seems like him and i do have similar expectations and preferences.

the truth is: i am tired of PES. i could go on and on about what i think sucks about this game, but as this is largely subjective and personal i won't. all i can say is, that i've been playing this franchise since ISSPE1 and while it arguably has many many great things about it -- and has improved on a lot of issues -- the flaws (well, flaws, to me at least) have not been changing one iota over the years. one could call this consistency or slow true-to-yourself progression on the behalf of Konami, but from a slightly different perspective it looks like laziness or resting on ones laurels. of course, if everyone shouts "this game is perfect!" i won't feel the need to get my butt into gear to change things, or try out new ones.

Sure enough neither FIFA nor Codies games are an alternative. we all know they suck in even more areas. so PES is despite all these issues the best thing around.

I think, however, it all boils down to what someone posted further up about how in WE the border between having the ball and not having it seems too strict, and FK feels more open, the transition is more gentle.

Anyone who addresses such a central issue of this sport has my attention. I mean, even FIFA got my attention with their OTB thingie, which of course turned out s.hite. so i am very curious as to how FK deals with it, because, frankly, I am sure Konami won't do anything new in that direction other than changing the mapping for the RAS maybe one more time -- which will not make the handling of it one bit less counter-intuitive.

So, i actually don't mind things being more simplistic, as long as they feel right. and PES (don't know about WE), lately more so than ever, doesn't feel right to me anymore.
