These threads always go the same way, fights. Guys, as stated before BOTH of these games have many many flaws. I bounce from one to the other,I play Fifa for a few days then the flaws pee me off, then PES and the flaws pee me off.
Correct, the variety of goals you can score in PES are more than those in Fifa. But the passing in PES is ****e, I want the pass to go where I point the controller ALWAYS as it almost always does in Fifa.

QOUTE
'It does not seem the same is fifa where fast forwards are always caught by any defender'

Thats bollox, the PES striker in my control miss controls or is almost always slower to react till the defender catches up. For example, the ball is played thru to the attacker and the defender makes a rash challenge, misses the ball and is on the ground. My striker was slightly knocked by the defender and takes till the defenders instant recovery to get full control of the ball, by now the defender has taken the ball. But down the other end my defender cannot instantly recover and get up and the striker shakes of the knock like water off duck. Hes gone!

And maybe its because I been playing PES more on one of these bounces lately, but I'm sure it cheats more.
I was playing Spurs against R'senal at Highbury, I (Spurs) went 3-0 up by half time. 2nd half my team seemed to react much much slower than CPU, miscontrolled and was brushed off the ball at every pass and some button presses (passes, challenges) just went astray and didnt happen untill R'senal were 4-3 up, then it went back to normal.
So BOTH games are too scripted. Yes there must be scripting, but the scriting is used to limit my capabilities in both games rather than the CPU being better than me to beat me.

QOUTE
'I mean, looking at the history of the FIFA product, with features added one year, taken away the next,....'

Absolutely. Why do they do it? Somethings have worked and then the next year been replaced by something worse.

QOUTE
'awareness of the fundamentals not only of football play, but of football experience. PES3 and 4, for me, seem to be the industry's closest effort to reflecting both the football experience from the player and the fan/viewer perspective that the masses have ever seen.'

IMO this is bollox, neither of these games gets close enough long enough.

Yup, neither of them is perfect. At that point it is just a user choice on which they like better. Both have many pros and many cons. My only complaint really about FIFA is the Midfielders in most formations. My only real complaint about PES is the player animations. I don't find that we will experiance less scripted gameplay until the next generation of consoles. They will have mad computing power to give more variables for the CPU to choose and use. I know these games are on PC, we all know though that sports games are made for consoles first. Then just ported to the PC. I find that both these games seem better on the PS2. FIFA was a very poor port to PC from consoles. Konami on the other hand did a pretty good job at porting PES4. I still find the console versions more responsive.

Edit:
I just did some serious investigating between the games. I figured out why FIFA seems somewhat more scripted than PES. The Keeper is the culprit. The keeper always reacts the same in FIFA. This is also why it seems that your shoots are different everytime in PES. An illusion created from the fact that the keeper has a brain. He can grab a ball that they wouldnt in FIFA. Props go to Konami for the illusion of more types of shots. :) I get so sick of useless corners in FIFA. It is as if the keeper creates a corner kick almost every time. Grrrrrrrr it drives me nuts. If they fix the keeper in 2006 it will make things much better.

What I mean is that there can be just as many different shots in FIFA if the keeper didnt always react the same to every shot.

The keepers in PES are better than in FIFA.

Wow, FIFA boys have come together to launch an attack on us PES/WE fanatics..

That`s why almost all Americans choose FIFA over PES/WE cuz' they have no clue about football and how should it be played.

I`m sorry but more than half of the world plays PES/WE and most of them are mature adults or young adults.

You will hardly see someone from Germany/England/Italy/Spain/Portugal etc say FIFA is better than PES/WE. It just isnt.

Like I said before and I`ll say it again. Konami owns EA in footie games and that`s that. Hell, International Superstar Soccer 64' and 98' is more realistic and better than FIFA 2005 and it will be better than FIFA 06'-07' etc.

Do you know how many professional football players actually play PES/WE to polish their skills in real life ?? who plays FIFA ??

PES/WE needs:

- all official licenses for all national and club teams (we could see this happening in the future as there is already few leagues licensed)

- I`m fine with the gameplay...but if Konami can do a better job then why not ?

- Online support for all regions (i.e USA)
- Better commentary.

I can`t think of anything else..

FIFA needs whole new gameplay built from scratch .. and it still won`t come close to PES/WE

- graphics (yes most of you think FIFA owns PES/WE in graphics but its not true at all. Players look like they take steroids and the way they move is like terminators on the field.

-

Now lets take patched PES or WE..

Patched FIFA 05' over WE8JL ?? or LWE.. there is simply no match..

And when PS3 gets released FIFA will die.

PS3 - You will see graphics and player movement like we see in PES/WE intro movies..
:rockman: :rockman: 3D crowd .. and the gameplay should blow through the roof..

I expect unlimited number of animations tricks moves etc..

Fifa will improve their sh!!ty graphics and will get more licenses hahha..

I`d rather play SWOS than FIFA 2145

This is something new. How many? Please substantiate with facts. Skills are polished on the training ground not by playing video games. If ppl can polish their skills by playing a football video game, the world will be full of professional football players.

You really know your football.

No man, the reason why PES/WE is not popular in the US because we only know konami since We6. Americans who play soccer in real life or know about soccer will likely choose WE7 over crappy fifa 2005, and those who don't know about soccer will not touch either of them. WE series will definitely become American's favorite soccer game, it's only the matter of time.:)

Professional football players polishing their skills playing PES:rofl:. That's the most stupid thing I've ever heard on these forums. I've never seen Henry running like Pinochio for example. And about the steroids, the last FIFA game you must have played is FIFA 2002 or FIFA 2003 than. PES 4 player models look way more like players who took steroids compared to the FIFA 2005 players.

And the walking of the PES 4 players look far more like terminators than the FIFA 2005 players. Get your facts right.

International Superstar Soccer 64 in 1997
http://www.gamespot.com/n64/sports/internationalsuperstars64/index.html
Then in 2000 the PSX had ISS Pro Evolution. The worst part of your argument and statement was that ISS 64 was mentioned right above your post.

  Ok so if this is true then why this one, USA is ranked 11th in the world at the current moment. These are from when I posted this reply.
http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/team/overview.html?team=usa
Germany-13th
England-7th
Italy-8th
Spain-4th
Portugal-8th
USA-11th
Damn but for not knowing anything about soccer the American team is ranked higher than one of the teams you mentioned.

Who the hell told you that. No real player would polish their skills on a video game, not FIFA or PES is even close enough to real Football playing to help a player polish their skills. I cant believe you would say this. To think that after practice that the coach will tell lets say Michael Ballack to go home and play soccer video games to polish up on his playing skills. That is just retarted. I think you are thinking with the wrong idea. Like how race car drivers play simulations to polish their skills and learn track, but they are no video games as we would play. Soccer......Football......They only polish their skills on the field, button pushing does nopt help you learn how to play better soccer. Like someone else said, if this was true than call me a soccer expert because I play both FIFA and PES, either or at least 2 hours a day.

how about gameplay? the most important thing of soccer games. Fifa 2005 gameplay is the most stupid thing I've ever seen since...Fifa 2004:f***: it's just plain stupid, stupid and stupid:hump: :hump: :hump: About player movements, oh yeah, I don't think Figo, beckham and R.Carlos take the free kick in the same way in real life, but in FIfa 2005, they do, so realistic huh? all players (no matter they're henry, Shevchenko or some losers from 3rd divison) can shoot the ball flying like a rocket and the super keeper always fly like super man and save them, that is so realistic:rockman: . In fifa 2005, there are some "magic" spots on the field that if you shoot them ball from those spots, 100% that you'll beat the super keeper, the ball will go into the net exactly the same way, at the same place, the super keeper will miss it in the same way with the same animation over and over again. :kader: ..and yeah, you can turn the offside off in FIFA, imagine a soccer match without offside, i think FIFA 2005 beat WE hand down on the offside matter:rockman:

I don't think there are many different animations for free kick taking in PES/WE too. Maybe three. And who gives a f*ck about that anyway, it's not a freekick game. And you should play the UCL 2004-2005 demo and you will not see those magic spots again. I wonder if you have even played FIFA 2005.

Once again why the hell cant PES fans name the flaws in PES, FIFA fans name the flwas in FIFA. Are you just mad because of what I said about the one comment that made you look like and idiot, I dont believe you have played the FIFA's either, remember you are the one who thought that americans havent seen Konami soccer games before WE6, when we clearly have if you knew anything. Hate to break it to ya but read all the posts here before spouting out stuff. We have named the flaws in FIFA and the flaws in PES, I think we all realize, this includes FIFA fans, that the keeper is dumb as hell in FIFA 05, about freekicks, um I dont really see any difference from one player to the next in PES when taking a freekick, stop fouling and you wont see that repetitive footage over and over, What does it make you mad that a 7 year old that doesnt know what the hell they are doing can play fifa and turn offsides off, so they can still attempt to play the game.
The running animations in PES look like robots, so realistic huh? Do you see how your comments are not degrading FIFA in any way, here I am more of a FIFA fan but hey let me add another flaw in FIFA just so you dont have to and because I am man enough to point out flaws in my Fav game. The friggin Midfielders are never where they should be. I dont try to act as if FIFA is perfect.

Also for all you FIFA haters, gain some skills and go play the game on professional or world class, the game is no longer scripted and those magic spots are not there anymore. It is plain as day that all of you guys that say it is nothing but crap only play the game on the first 2 levels of difficulty.

The running animations in WE to you is like robot, but it's more realistic than in FIFA, because at least they're running, not skating. A seven years old kidswho doesn't know what the hell he is doing won't turn offside off because he doesn't know what the hell offside is and how it works. This is just a super stupid idea of EA, they think offiside is something "optional" in soccer, having it or not won't affect the match, it's obvious that the big lips EA guy who running his mouth about Fifa 2005 on those videos on gamespot should watch more soccer. and thanks for midfielders flaws, I nearly forgot about that, FIFA 2005 is just too amazing, there's always something "news" discovered everyday, so it's hard to keep tracks of these things you know.

Really........ I played soccer at seven and I knew what offsides was. It just wasnt applied in junior soccer. I also played alot of video games and would have turned it off for the simple fact that in the older FIFA's you would get called offsides and not even know why. Hell I turned it off on FIFA's until the past few years when EA made the offsides readable and understandable as to why you got called on them. Dude even most PES fans will agree that the running animations in PES are crap :sb9: Like I said before, read the entire thread before making a post. Jomi, who wanted to argue with me (nothing but love Jomi, it was fun) agrees that the running animations are better in FIFA. Go to other threads you will see the same crap. Even in the PES board. The running animations are the most hindering part of PES/W11 series.
They need to use motion capturing. FIFA does not look like they are ice skating. Where did you even get that into your head? Dude even the This is Football series has better running animations. PES is a good but not the way you are describing it.

If you forgot the midfielder flaw then you have never played the game......plain and simple.

i hope he knows that you can not judge a game by a review or gameplay footage.
this is also comming from the same person that said america didnt know konami soccer games until WE6. when right above his post someone was talking about ISS 64

My god PES fans. I never said long live FIFA and I hope the PES series dies soon. In respect I said Long live both games but I prefer one over the other.

I've palyed Fifa for four f*cking years if you want to know (2000 to 2004) and I also downloaded and try 2005, and as a former fifa player, I say that EA still hire a bunch of freaking idiots who don't know anything about soccer to make this piece of ****, yeah, with money and technology, they can have all the lisence and make running animations better (that's your opinion), and better graphic, but they will never have gameplay like WE because these people just don't have enough knowledge about soccer. that's why game FIFA game play still remains the same crap in the last five years. play your precious fifa 2000 to 2004 and you'll know what I mean.

LOL, hey yo you guys are goin nowhere just babblin back in forth..... Kenji just let it be man I bet your having more fun with WE7I right now.......

I gave up on fifa after 2003, because EVERY bicycle kick on a corner was an AUTOMATIC goal,

now deft you tell me would you keep buying something that displayed such horrible gameplay like this????

Again, i havent played fifa2005 at all and im sure its improved, BUT im not buyin another fifa game until I see some reviews better than PES/WE (H)

and so far customer reviews, mag reviews, polls, all have PES/WE as king

I will be renting it in a few days though to test it myself.....
