Ok I will give you some of my gaming history.
In the era of 8-bit gaming I played the International Socer (I think That is what it was called) game on NES.
Reason: Were there any other soccer games, I cant remember.
n the era of 16-bit gaming I played the FIFA series.
Reason as to why: There wasnt really much of a choice besides the nintendo made one.
In the era of 32/64-bit gaming I played the Konami ISS series.
In the current era of gaming I started with trying a new series the World Tour Soccer/This is Football series. In 2003 I decided to go back to FIFA. Now I play both the FIFA and PES series..

I have bounced back and forth and still do to this day. None of them give me what I really want from a Football match...................................Freedom. Game systems are just not powerful enough to not be scripted (both games are scripted) with such a fast paced free flowing sport.

I get excited when I score in FIFA. The thing about FIFA is that, yes if you find that one spot or sure fire way to score it becomes boring. This is the users fault though. You guys need to understand this. My goals look different every time I score. I make them be different. I don't follow the same line over and over. I do not produce the same cross over and over. I do not use the same first touch over and over. The goals all looking the same is user error. Dont even try to say that this is not true. Any game is that way. I will play ESPN NFL 2K5 with certain friends and the game gets boring and repetitive. That is because they run the same crap over and over, while other people I play dont.

I not saying I scored the same goals all the time. I'm just saying they lack the excitement of the ones I score in PES4.

Another thing that bothers me about Fifa is the complete lack of freedom. You have very little say in the tactics. In PES4 you can customize everything like a real coach. The corners and freekicks are ridiculous in Fifa. You can't even pass it if you wanted to. Fifa does not give you freedom. It gives you far too many boundries. I like PES4 because it lets me use my imagination when I play.

Nono don't event bother talking to deftonesmx17 cos he want shut up
and i don't think u played pes4 (yet) mutch cos sometimes u talk non sens.
anyways that's the reasen why we get excited when we scoore goals in pes, because u always scoore different goals every time u play. u never scoored in fifa2005 with ur midfeld cos u just can't +scoreing the same goal over and over agen it just make me sick. fifa its not a football, but that's my mistake buying fifa agen this year, (as i was fifa fan couple of years ago) i was hopeing that they will change but then agen i was desepointed like allways:kader:
i am not saying fifa 2005 didn't immprove eather, but not as good as u make it, and still way behind pes2&3, agen i am not saying pes4 prefect eather, at list u got 10x more fredoom then any football game at the moment and i thing u should spend more time playing to fill the game, rither then fighting with every one in this forum i know u like fifa and that's ur choise, but i would like to know what is to like??????

i know u will come here to attack me with some more excuses but don't worry i will ignore u:gavin:

The author of this thread started with the intention to list the pros and cons of both games. He also stated his preference for Fifa to PES. All hell broke loose because PES hardcore fans started to fire from all angles to defend their beloved sacred game. There is no need to defend any game. Fifa to PES fans may be crap but it still sell millions of copies. How do you explain that?

Another frequent quote by PES fans is they know football better than those who play Fifa. Please prove that with facts. Just because you play a game that you think simulate football closer doesn't mean you know football. Video games can never simulate the real thing. There are too many variables.

I agree with your second point but PES is better than Fifa. Fifa only sells better due to their licences. However people like Americans have not realised this bcos they have Xbox which did not have Konami soccer games bfor. Soccer games are jugded according to gameplay not grafix. Reason why PES fans like me say we know more about football is we appreciate the tactical managment oF PES which is way closer to real life than FIfa. :f***:

I think the way to prove which gamers know most about football is to see what proportion of fans of each game support ManUre.

PES 15%

FIFA 34%

I've been playing WE since kind of the first WE, i think. Back then, Winning Eleven provided only Japanese League and if i recall it correct, there were also countries, but i can only remember playing the Japanese League. I know nothing bout ISS or anything, but to be honest, i don't believe that it was the same as WE. Why? Cause WE was only published in Japan. I am not Japanese, but the game was also out in my country...It was year 1999. after the first Winning Eleven the first, there was Winning Eleven 2000 still with Japanese League inside, after that i forgot what came next, but i was playing it again from WE5,WE6 (still in console and rarely), and then there was WE7I which i played on my computer. Now i play PES4 in my computer.
I previously also played FIFA started from FIFA RTWC 1998 and then 1999 and 2000, and then 2001. The game was still in PS1 ( i don't really remember when PS2 came in...but i rarely play anything on console after PS1). In PS2 i sometimes played WE with my friends.
Having both the games played for unbalanced part of time since i like WE far better as FIFA, i can tell you that if you now try to play the first edtions of WE, you won't play right and perhaps as succesful as you could be in PES4 or WE8. why? cause the engine and the AI are pretty much different. The movement is also far from being the same. In the other hand, FIFA has always been quite the same in terms of control...it feels like having only the updates of the players ability and so on...yeah, i know nothing about the present FIFA, but if i got WE, why would i try FIFA? I've tried it quite many times in the past, as i've told you up there, and it wasn't that good. i even liked those previous versions of WE better as FIFA, even though if i remember it right, the control was awfully hard, and the players are like so slow in moving themselves. but the feeling of being closer to the reality is the one that satisfies me ever since. there are also some silliness that i can't bear in FIFA, like the ability of the player to do acrobatic moves so easily, the keeper can jump like superman, and why does FIFA give player the ability to tackle keeper when the keeper hold the ball in their hands???that is just unrealistic and no one would do it in the real world, unless he was desperate or something...well maybe that ability was created so that people can have the outlet for their anger problem...or maybe it's just some kind of comedy that EA finds as a funny thing...well...i think EA shoud just make games like CnC or Battle for Middle Earth...they are good at those games...

soccerrulez, basically I'm saying that the majority of Man U supporters know Carlos sh1t about footy, so therefore, with PES fans obviously knowing more about football due to their choice of game, less of them will support Man U compared to FIFA fans.

Wot a real ,real clown. A statement so idiotic along with the rest of the unfounded rubbish in his post. I just keep laughing at that one. So tell me please mate, how many players then and where do your facts come from.....lol

Also for all you FIFA haters, gain some skills and go play the game on professional or world class, the game is no longer scripted and those magic spots are not there anymore.
....The friggin Midfielders are never where they should be. I dont try to act as if FIFA is perfect.
Sorry mate, I dont agree with you. I only play at WC level and it is still scrited. Try sellecting a midfield player and see if you can sprint him into a covering position. You cant, you can only jog him.
Switch to a defender when the oposition is attacking on the edge of your penalty box or pays a through ball, you cannot control him for a vital sencond or so and he does his own thing like moves out the way or dances round his handbag. But your right about the midfeilders positioning, that is a major flaw.

The running animations in WE to you is like robot, but it's more realistic than in FIFA,.......
This is so untrue, and besides there is no fluency to their movement and turning etc. You cannot receive the ball and turn in one movement as its, recieve-pause,control then turn. Its a pause to almost every movement in the game. This game could do with 1st touch. Put a through ball in a real game and the attacker doesnt pause to control the ball, he takes a touch and is away without stopping.
Both games are well unsatisfying so I dont understand the conviction with which some people have that one is perfect or close and the other is miles away.

do you know any of the statistics between xbox and ps2, i doubt because americans own xbox's then they are misinformed about the PES/WE series, last stated reports show that 75% of console owners have a PS2, 13% have a xbox, 12% have a gamecube, I cant imagine the 13% of people owning an xbox being the reason why americans are misinformed about PES, anymore I have found both of these games to play arcade-like, if you want real football then play the This is Football series, I just got TIF 2005 and all I can say is both fifa and PES play more arcade like, you can fake foul's and everything in TIF 2005, it takes skill to control the ball, pretty much I would call TIF the mix of FIFA and PES, it has FIFA's flashy GFX and motion capturing, with PES's freedom gameplay, I still will play FIFA and PES more because when games become to realistic they take away from that fact that video games are supposed to take you away from reality.

what the hell, this is football 2005, come on man whitch world are u liveing, is that what u call realistic game(N) tif this is football 2005 is the best game of the series and the worst game in the planet :kader:

idon't agree with this
they are trying to make the game to look as good as possible to the real thing every year, and that's the reasen why pes3, xbox2 is comming out.
if a football game looks as if u are watching football, and it plays with all the movs and animation as u are on the pitch or as u watching a real match on tv, that is a dream come true for every football fun

are you nuts, FIFA is the only game worth anything from EA, EA did nothing but screw up what westwood had done for the CnC games, Generals was nothing but a display of EA's mighty power to create flashy GFX games, I would play CnC Red alert 1 & 2 any day before I would even bother installing generals ever again, come on, CnC generals had only 21 missions all together, while red alert 1 & 2 had easily that many per faction.

Well let me start off by saying this is possibly the BEST "arguments" I have read here in a looong time. because of the fact that Im not reading peoples post that are like "oh Fifa sucks" or "Oh PES sucks" you guys are actually giving reasons for why you don't like it and actually posting whats good AND bad in each game. Please keep up the great posting guys!

Now ive never played any PES/WE game, only FIFA and yes it might not be the most perfect game in the world. Heck I dont think any game is that perfect. If you want the running better you have to motion capture many diffrent people because not everyone really runs the same and have the same movements. If you think about it you'll have to motion capture every single player in the game because not one person moves and reacts the same way. Know what i mean, its only a game and they do there best. Ive really never gotten fustrated with any Fifa game besides the menus in like 2004 because they were slow and loading and saveing was also a pain.

In fifa all they really need to do now is focus on a better career mode. More depth never hurt anyone. About being in control yes I agree with being in control but I would also like game where the computer "thinks" for themselves aswell because of the fact that I dont want to do all the work myself.

Well sorry I cant compare both game together but maybe someday I'll eventually get a WE game and try it out for myself. But you guys could do the comparing for me and you guys are giving great detail and reasons.

Keep up the great job.
