He's good still, but not electric like he used to be, turns in the odd bad performance these days and doesnt quite have the energy he used to.

Same could almost be said for Robert De Niro... I can't beleive he lowered himself so much as to do that awful, awful "Godsend" movie.

Yeah, seems to me like he's just after money now. Probably 90% of the best actors were better when young - DeNiro's early performances are definately his best, same goes for Nicholson and Paul Newman too, and though Pacino probably made better films later in life, I feel his actual performances were better in the early films like Dog Day Afternoon. Even Brando got crap at the end of his career, he was very disappointing in Apocalypse Now and The Score. The best old actors are mostly British, people like Michael Gambon, Ian McKellen, Richard Harris (RIP), Christopher Lee, Oliver Reed (RIP), Patrick Stewart, John Hurt, Michael Hordon (RIP), Alec Guinnes (RIP) etc are all as good now (were as good at the end of their careers in the case of the deceased) as they've ever been.

Haha, nice review (Y) It's a shame, I've always liked Penelope Cruz and it's a shame to see her put in a poor performance. I was pretty ambiguous as to whether to see this or not so I quess I'll give it a miss. Very interesting and informative though, thanks.

I dont know, name one bad performance or movie he's been in lately?

and the comparision with DeNiro is completely wrong IMO. DeNiro has done some REALLY bad movies lately like Godsend, Shark Tale, Analyze That, Showtime. also The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

I liked Hide and Seek, though his performance was better than the movie, and City by the Sea was REALLY good.

I seen the Forgotten with Julianne Moore tonight. I have to say this movie is trash. I didnt like the storyline at all. Anyone else seen it? The whole thing with that stupid alien guy and everyone having their memories erased and so on, just, i dunno. Its just plain stupid

The two that spring to mind are Anger Management and Something's Gotta Give - I thought they were both really dreadful films and his performance in them, though better than everyone else, were both poor. I didnt like him in Terms of Endearment either, though he got an oscar for it so I guess I'm in a vast minority.

Dont get me wrong, I love the man, his performances in Chinatown, The Shining, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Five Easy Pieces, Easy Rider and, more recently, About Schmidt, are all among the best of all time - I just thnk he lets himself down a little now whereas he never ever did before.

well, I guess Anger Management could be taken as not his best movie. but he's still better at these comedies than DeNiro and Pacino.

and I did like Something's Gotta Give though its target is pretty much women but I thought it was good movie and very well acted by him and Diane Keaton.

Diane Keaton? Is that the Godfather lady?

I mean, they were alright, but come on, compare them to his vintage performances and they're along way short, whereas back then nothing he did was short.

I didnt enjoy either remotely, but I can see how some could.

Just finished watching Ocean's 12, not as bad as some of you guys made it out to seem. I thought it was pretty good but it obviously wasn't at the level of the first one.

Watched Casablanca again last night, been a while since I saw it last, god it's soooo good. Some of those classics are magnificant, Humphrey Bogart's characters are always so good and original, each one played to perfection. The likes of Bogart, Welles, Laughton, Gable, Olivier etc are easily as good as the DeNiro's and Pacino's of today, I reckon.

Still undecided as to whether to see that or not - I might try and see it over the weekend.
