Just wondering

MJ is setting off to America now and won't be able to respond unless he gets internet access teaching little kiddo's football! Well, he's a mate. Known him for years, love to play FIFA and now he's testing out my updates for 06 making sure they play right. He rings me up now and again telling me what's what and I sort it out. One issue we had the other day was headers...they were too easy to lob the keeper, so now it's harder to hit the target and connect with a cross or a corner, which I think is great!! As for goalkeeper tuning, they are harder to beat, but very beatable. They are by no means superhuman, but they save plenty more shots than before and the CPU take plenty more shots!! It balances out the game.

If you're playing on World Class and the score is 0-0 and going into 70 minutes of play, V8 will kick-in with the intensity and pressure and you'll notice that the CPU starts cracking shots at the keeper from all over the place and sometimes they cause some problems! Actually quite often. Forcing corners and lots of action. Great stuff. I played as Barcelona v cpu Arsenal just now and lost 1-0 on world class, the match was balanced, very playable. They had a chance, I had one, they had a chance, then I had a chance, shots up to 60 minutes were about 4-4 for all, but they were 100% accurate and I was 75%, which I think is 4 shots, but 3 on target...right? lol, I don't know it's too late for that *yawn*. But either way, once the clock started to get up to 90 minutes and was in the 75mins/80mins, the CPU arsenal starting cracking the ball at goal from all over the place! They went up to 11 shots and Bergkamp (the bastad) out-skilled my defender and out-side curled the ball around my keeper and into the top corner. Looked very nice, just outside the box. My keeper has saved everything else so it was realistic. Then again Henry should have put one away in the 1st half, but juuuust missed and hit the side netting. I got lucky, but doesn't everyone? I know other matches could've been much harder to play, but V8 doesn't make any game unplayable. You can play on any difficulty level and feel a balance, just depends how difficult it is...but the game is 'fair' to play. That's what I want. Not a game that's difficult because CPU is amazing and anyone who control a player on the user team is unable to turn without a 5 second delay! I want a game that offers difficulty naturally.

As I told Ash, the update was put back into development due to issues with keeper tuning and as I am up quite late you can imagine what I've been looking at! (And it's not naked women :brow: )

Right, off I go!

Just got my ass handed to me on a silver plate by what was an incredibly attacking world class CPU that would make the most difficult of V6 matches seem easy! Sheesh!! They shot from half way line damnit!!!! They tried to score from all over the place.

I have really upped the player speeds, at times when you get hold of faster players' the game seems to go quickly, then when slower players' get the ball you get more time to think. It's crazy! I literally out-ran 3 Brazil defenders with Owen...great feeling!! I pushed my way through them....couldn't score though :( Shooting is harder.

Now, I fixed the game and I have to tell you that v.7 is the best update ever :rockman: ! But I show sth that I don't like... In the last 2 updates, when the ball falling down after a through pass it goes metres away. I think this is the only bad thing in ball physics!

Yeah i think NK's got that covered... Is that from a lobbed through pass er w and a i think on a keyboard?

Oh you mean the ball rolls too much or goes too far from the player using a through pass? Well, I did intend on making it harder to pass to players' in such a way so that not every build-up attempt you have it going to be perfect and look a unrealistic! But as you believe this is an issue with the ball physics, I will make sure that V8 is running smoothly, which so far I believe it is :)

Also, in V8 there is a big difference between players' with exceptional pace and those that are just average or good paced/speedy players'. But, to be exceptional you have to have a higher rating than before to show the true 'potential' in the exceptionally gifted paced players'. But when you do get hold of a player such as Owen on the England squad and get running into open space, you'll soon realise that V8 has improved over V6 and V7.

Now you can take on defenders with the highest skilled players'. I've been trying my best to take on a full defence with Ronaldinho on Barcelona, but alas the most defenders I have outskilled and beaten with pace in one 'try' was 4! Not bad eh? It was clear that Ronaldinho's attributes for speed, control and skill were better than that of the defenders. I may try against a smaller team with him and record for you the best 'run' I can get without losing the ball. It's an incredible buzz when you take on the defenders and beat them, but even though it's very possible it's still difficult to do and requires good timing and user skill to execute such moves. The CPU tackling is still been tuned and toned down so they're not so perfect at challenges. In V6 and V7, the CPU tackles were too perfect and has an unrealistic feeling to it. But now you can see the CPU making bad challenges, more fouls, more mistakes and it feels much more natural, even perhaps as though you are playing somethig much more 'real' rather than computer code.

In your previous versions the power up indicator of penalties goes up too fast.
Can you fix that?

It is made to be faster so that it requires quicker reactions and thinking in where you want to put the penalty. When it went up slowly I found it too easy to direct a penalty and now I hit the power too much and miss! I never missed before and in real games it is very possible to miss a penalty.

I have developed a new gameplay style, it hasn't got any 'version' on it, although it is subbed V9 BETA and V8 is out on Friday!! But so far this isn't a version it's just something I made for myself out of curiosity, but in fact the gameplay plays pretty much the same difficulty as V8 but much slower, the ball physics are similar to gameplayupdate2, which some people thought was like 'kicking a balloon' and others thought was more like PES5'ish. Anyways, it plays good and it's slower and more 'tactical'. I might release a video comparing V8 to this new version dubbed V9 BETA. But hey, ya'll let me know if you think the option to install a slower version of my update is a good one...I know some people wanted V7 to be slower.

Hello people!
Some of you may be wondering how the new V8 version plays, release 30th june btw, so I decided after winning a copy of V8 i'd give you a lil review. I wanted to give some video footage, but my fraps won't run, whatever version I install :(

Anyway the new V8 is a vast improvement over the older versions I have played. I feel that over V6 and V7, the gameplay update plays a lot more fairly, and you can even string passes between more than 3 or 4 players! Wow! So i was happy about that. I noticed that, although you can lobbed pass (w and a on keyboard) the ball out of play, it happens only once or twice every few games instead of 5,6 or even 7 times per game, which i felt was more realistic.

I have played with both an analog controller and a keyboard. I played World class with the controller, because it is my preferred difficulty level and played Semi-pro with the keyboard, because I felt that that was the level I could play with realistic results. Any higher and i woulda got owned :).

I don't know how people with a keyboard manage. Usually I can only score by pressing the up key to aim, anything else and it goes out... swiftly moving on cos that isn't something NK can sort :) Its just impossible to truly aim with only 90, 180, 270 and 360 degree angles from left right down and up keys.

Gameplay wise i feel that games are fairer. I'm going to just talk about my experience with the controller now, a bit biased sorry, but i feel the game is a lot better and more realistic with a 360 deg controller. When playing matches, I found that even chelsea or any high team could lose out to an inspirational moment from a low class team. I was winning 2-0 in a cup game against crystal palace, and then a wonder goal from a deflection on the crossbar made me rethink how safe i was letting them keep the ball for too long :)

I feel that player side wise, crosses are realistic, sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Just depends on how well the cross is played and the position of your attacking players. On the CPU side however, crossing has been reduced to low power drive crosses only. Hey NK the CPU don't do high crosses into the box any more! :) That'll need a bit of tweaking. When I say they do low crosses I mean every time, if its not a low cross its a shot.

The player positions for my team were improved too, even though most of the AI is hard coded, it seems it's been slightly swayed by some attributes in your gameplay NK. Before when your about to cross, you'd be lucky if one player is in the box, and if you took a long shot that hit the bar or got parried away by the goalkeeper, ther'd be no follow up. This time in V8 however, players seem to get into the box more. Yay! IO even scored a great follow up goal from a long range shot, far post deflection which i was happy about.

Scoreline wise, very realistic. 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 0-0. Most of my games result in a win with chelsea, but thats expected. I played on my laptop with chelsea and because i was using a keyboard i couldn't capitalise on anything and lost 1-0... my first loss for ages :) well never mind... even the best lose sometimes.

The CPU no longer become wonder men at certain points in the game, so i feel that the game is more realistic in that way too... they become more determined, but its no longer sure they'll turn superhuman and score a wonder goal from the half way line.... ok i exaggerated :)

Ok Conclusiooooneee time: (These are realism scores by the way)
Nothing can be 10/10 beacuse the term EA comes to mind... there design makes it so it can't be perfect :) Many things are also affected in score by the way they are hard coded AI wise.

Passing CPU: 9/10 | Passing Player: 9/10
Crossing CPU: 6/10 | Passing Player: 8/10
Shooting CPU: 8/10 | Shooting Player: 8/10
Lobbed Passes CPU: 9/10 | Lobbed Passes Player: 9/10
Headers CPU: 9/10 | Headers Player: 9/10
Player Positioning CPU: 9/10 | Player Positioning: 8/10 (This one is prob mostly EA's fault)
Goalkeepers CPU: 9/10 | Goalkeepers Player: 9/10
Tackling CPU: 9/10 | Tackling Player: 9/10
Set Plays CPU: 8/10 | Set Plays Player: 8/10

Overall: 8.7 / 10 = Pretty good update, many things a lot better, only 1 or 2 things tht are serious but the game is a lot more balanced and you don't feel like you've been hard done by. CPU takes advantage of mistakes, like bringing defenders from a marked CPU player to a CPU player in possesion of the ball. The player in posession plays it to the CPU player you've left, not always though, but i felt bit silly that I was outsmarted in tht way :D Heh Heh

Well Done NK, this is a fine update. the only real letdown is CPU crosses (not corners) in my eyes, although not that much of a problem because i can block their crosses :)

Thanks Ash. That is a great review and I will look into the issue with CPU crosses for the future. I am currently playing V8 myself and thinking of ways to slow it down if needs be for a more tactical game. I have ways to slow down the game realistically, but it can affect the difficulty and balance of matches. I will look into it.

For the time being, enjoy the update mate and I'll be looking into new ways of getting the update to play at its best for future releases. <b>V8 released this Friday, 30th</b>

Ash I took this seriously and tested V8 and you were indeed correct. I have fixed the problem now and can tell you that V8 has been put together again with this bug ironed out. It is <b>exactly</b> the same as the one you're playing only now the CPU do high and low crosses too. Is this just what you wanted bud? ;)
