The - iPod, MP3 player, Gadgets - Thread

Posted in the wrong thread, and now correcting it.

I'm looking for an MP3 player with a good battery length with the focus on listening to music. I don't need to look at pictures and videos, but solely music. It should be bigger than 1 gb, because that's my current player's capacity. It also should be a player that shows up as a removable driver.

Rio Carbon and MuVo2 are the players I've come up with so far, but I still have doubts. Rio Carbon doesn't have replacable battery, and MuVo2 has only a 12 hour battery life. I noticed that Yash and Rusi have the Rio Carbon (don't know about MuVo2), Shinji's helpful with gadget searches, hence I ask for help. Is the Rio Carbon still going strong? Is there any other alternative that I would be perfectly compatible with? Help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Im happy with my Carbon. I use it everyday and haven't had trouble with it. Im positive Rusi's carbon is doing fine as well.

Can't really help you with the Muvo2.

Hey does anyone here have a Creative Zen Touch? I sold my old player after one of my uncles got me the 20GB one a few days ago, because it was so insanely cheap I think. Anyway, I'm enjoying it unlike what some people I've heard from. I've abused the hell out of it and it still hasn't frozen or crashed.

Cowon iAudio X5L: http://reviews.cnet.com/Cowon_iAudio_X5L_30GB/4505-6490_7-31383685.html

-rated 35 hour battery length (but built in, replacement will cost around $40)
-video (don't need, but cool feature), text (reading while listening), picture (album art with the upcoming firmware), and of course audio (OGG, FLAC, WMA)
-shows up as external drive
-Korean

I'm gonna wait out to see if there are any other players matching/overwhelming the X5L, although I highly doubt it.

hey guys... i got another question for you.

I just recently got my mp3 player. Its a iriver h10 5 gb. However when i tried to install it on my system, it wouldn't work. When i plugged it in to the usb port it would give me an option to install it. however when i tried to install the player, it would search it and not find it. I installed the software that came on the cd already (and all that was was windows media player 10) I got a message i think where it said i had plugged a high speed usb cable into a non high speed usb port. I think the problem is that i have a usb 1.something and it requires a usb port of 2.0. Does anyone know if this could be the problem? And if so how would i solve it (cheaply). I thought i'd ask it here because i got such great replies last time. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got this from Windows help and support..just type usb 2.0 in the serach panel and u get this

To install USB 2.0 controller drivers
Before completing this procedure, determine if the USB 2.0 controller drivers you have on your computer are installed. To determine this, do the following:

Open Computer Management.
In the console tree, click Device Manager.
Where?

Computer Management
System Tools
Device Manager
On the View menu, click Devices by type.
In the details pane, click the plus sign to the left of Universal Serial Bus controllers.
If the word "Enhanced" is included in any of the listed controllers, your computer has USB 2.0 controller drivers installed.

If you cannot find the word "Enhanced" in any of the listed controllers, perform the following procedure:

Stop using any USB devices (such as a printer or Web cam) except the mouse and keyboard.
In the details pane, click the plus sign to the left of Other devices. Then, under Other devices right-click Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller, and then click Update Driver.
Follow the steps in the Hardware Update Wizard to complete the procedure. When you are finished, you might be prompted to restart your computer.
Notes

To open Computer Management, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.
If Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller is not listed under Other devices, you cannot install a USB 2.0 driver. To find out more about installing these drivers, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

I have tried doing this but my frnds portable HDD still doesnt work..its is supposed to work slowly on USB 1.1 but it cant be installed..same prob with ur MP3 player i guess
It appears my motherboard is too old to support USB 2.0 ,however new chipstes do support this and the procedure above shud solve ur porblem!

hey anyone know when they'll be coming out with one of those car-iPod transmitter things for iPod Nano? They have those for Mini and Classic, the ones that you put your iPod into and dial an FM frequency on your radio and it plays ur iPod music, like the iTrip.
