Papi and Damon weren't high priced in the way Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling were high priced. Plus he brought in guys like Roberts and Cabrera, so he makes solid trades.
Well, we pretty much gave them Roberts but yeah, he does make solid trades. We'll see, maybe he'll like the challenge of getting this team back on track but I've heard that he wants to take some time off from the game.

nice!!.. not much of a baseball fan but good to hear andruw jones is representing the netherlands..... I'm also a 'yu korsow' (son of curacao)!!

hmm... haven't paid much attention to baseball for a few years but the Jays have been making some big announcements lately..... I wonder how good they can be next season?

aj burnett
bj ryan

from these 2 I've only heard of aj burnett last season (again I haven't followed baseball much last 2-3 years)

right now they are looking to add some offense

Yeah, BJ Ryan really emerged last season with the Orioles. In other news the Brewers sent Wes Obermuller to the Braves for Shifty Kolb one year after we traded Kolb to the Braves for highly touted prospect Jose Capellan. So in other words we just sent a pitcher who's a better hitter than he is a pitcher to Atlanta for super prospect Capellan.

My god, considering we're pretty damn poor, we go out and give Rafael Furcal $13 million a season when we already have a shortstop and a pretty good one at that. Furcal is a very good player and a very good leadoff man BUT is he really worth that kind of money? I guess we might have more money to spend this offseason than I thought, it sure helps that we no longer have to pay Darren Dreifort $11 million a year for doing nothing.

heh, tough times down there ey, Danny? :p

Anyway, there are rumors around here that say we're going after Bobby Abreu. Apparently the Phillies want pitching and want Derek Lowe and/or Brad Penny for Abreu and David Bell. Abreu is damn good player and I would actually consider the deal, Bell could be used as a stop gap which will allow Andy LaRoche more time to develop in the minors. Odds are we'll sign Bill Mueller to play at third so we'll see how things play out.

Starting pitching is a problem and I don't know how we'll improve by losing those guys, losing Lowe and that big contract of his wouldn't be such a bad idea though.

Who are the prospects my Brewers got for Overbay?

David Bush, was a decent pitcher for the Jays, bright future... Gabe Gross, last season's pre-season wonder outfielder, regular season choke, but still young, bright future as well

and finally some no-name minor league pitcher who I've never heard of

so AJ Burnett, BJ Ryan and Overbey... to be honest, all were pretty overrated acquisitions, especially Ryan... I mean, $10M+ for a guy with like 46 career saves? :| Burnett and Halladay are a deadly combination, and Overbey's power numbers aren't so great, now too many HRs or RBIs, but a good on-base guy

and about Abreu, rumours were the Jays wanted him in exchange for Vernon Wells, but Phillies wanted Miguel Batista and Gustavo Chacin as well :| Batista ok, but Chacin? never, he's the future (H)

so now we wanna sign another "big bat", JP mentioned Garciaparra.. and Miguel Tejada just asked for a trade, maybe we should take advantage of that :D all I know is we're trying to get rid of Batista... hopefully we do, what a ****job he is :nape:

Braves got Renteria, but we need a lead-off hitter to replaceRafael :(

Maybe Betemit can do it

The Yanks are trying to convince Nomar Guarciaparra to play center field. :nape:
I really wanted Johnny Damon. :jambo:

Nomar should just retire, he's injury prone nowadays and is nowhere near the player he once was. I really hope he does it, as a fan of his, I just can't stand to watch him go out there and not play at the level he used to. Apparently we're after him as well to play third although Bill Mueller looks like he'll end up with us instead.

BJ Ryan pitched closer for the first time his career last season and from the experts I've heard he's the real deal. You should feel good about landing him.

With Overbay, you're looking at the wrong numbers. No he doesn't have much home run power, but he drives the ball hard to the gaps and gets a lot (A LOT) or doubles. Also the RBI numbers are a little low because he hasn't had great on base guys ahead of him either. He's a good 5 or 6 hitter.

A guy with 200 odd saves would be 34 or 35....Riccardi is not too fond of old players plus, there' s the Randy Myers experience..a proven closer who flopped. So who knows, the reverse might work...plus he isn' t nearly as old. A lot has been made of the fact that AJ, BJ and OVERBAY are entering their "prime" and I think that was the main factor in him being interested in those guys.

This is like the FIFA World Club Championship except that it does not "interfere" with the regular season.....YEAH RIGHT...."interfere"!!!!!!

There' s really nothing can stop the Yankee offence so this signing is not necessary but, without a decent pitching staff.

I would take a weak second baseman and strong pitching any day over the reverse. Octavio Dotel doesn' t exactly make the cut for NY.
