Two funny myths

Two funny myths:

1) If you come from a country where they call football "soccer"--you must know nothing about the game. I'll try to explain this slowly. People who speak a certain language or dialect use the words in that language or dialect to refer to things. In some countries, futbol or football is called "soccer." That doesn't reflect anything about the person's knowledge of the game, only the word he or she has been taught from birth. If a Spanish speaker referred to basketball as "baloncesto," I wouldn't assume he had no idea about how the game was really supposed to be played. Work to remove predjudice from you life.

2) EA Sports programmers are combing these forums for ideas. I work for a large software company, and the truth is that programmers have almost no input on the features or requirements for a piece of software. Marketing folks do that, and they put less weight on "expert users" or soccer fanatics such as those who might post in this forum. They put more weight on the common user who might not know a lot about the game. That is because they know everyone here will buy the game regardless, even if only to say "this sucks" as some of you seem to do.

I have no doubt that EA monitors their own forums on EA.com, but EA is trying to satisfy the entire market of potential consumers, who are NOT represented by people who post here. Hell, I've bought every FIFA game since 98, and have hated some of them, but I'll pitch out $40 to see what's improved each time, and EA knows most people on this forum will too.

As for the problems people have with this game, I don't get them:

* Constantly chasing back to tackle attackers on the wings -- move the bar below the formations screen to more of a defensive setting to play deeper on the pitch and/or keep defenders with pace on the wings.

* superman headers -- only done it once -- sure, you could hold onto "D" constantly every time the ball is in the air, but you're missing out on some major improvements to distributing the ball from headers. You should try them out.

* players not moving into space? -- change your strategy to "possession" and/or press the "Q" key, which will move the selected player into space.

If you can't get this stuff to work, well then go back to playing ISS and be happy. But I suspect that people are just envious of the popularity of the FIFA game, since I can't imagine working as hard as you do to degrade a game. If you don't like it, don't play it, and let it go. There's a big world out there, people.

These are really good points - particularly those around EA's approach to consumers. I mean, I think the NHL series is amazing fun, but in no way represents real soccer. But who really wants a sim? A true sim would mean playing 90 minute games during which you get five to ten shots on goal. Would be a little tedious, I think. In actually playing, you can enjoy those little personal battles in the midfield and scrapping for the ball and slow, methodical build-up, but I don't think that would translate well in a video game.

And let me apologize for being a maniac with everyone. This forum really brings out the worst in me so I desist.

I've got a brilliantly reworked Norwegian side ready to go and have a date with the World Cup.

Cheers all

Some of the facts that you have made I don't agree with you. First of all in a soccer game there shouldn't be any super human headers period, that rediculas, come on its fake man. Second of all when I press the Q key or the player move button the player does not move in to spaces but instead the player runs forward and thats not good. Actually it is great to have that feature where I can make my player attack or run forward but I also want the players actually move in to spaces other than running fowrward so I can make great passes sooooo the game would be more like a soccer game and more attractive.

Weems, I've seen so many FIFA fans turn to haters after they played ISS its not even funny anymore(ok, honestly its still funny:p ). Sure, there's a few exceptions like shuffle, but most people I see on these boards want their football game to play like football. And without exception ISS is the most realistic football game there is. Whether or not you'll enjoy it is another matter.

The problem is that if you never played ISS, you'll never know whats wrong with FIFA(except for Canadian.10, you're really smart;)). There's lot of flaws in FIFA that I just cannot put into words, you'll have to play ISS to understand what I mean. Once you discovered these flaws, believe me you'll never see FIFA in the same light again.

Honestly I envy FIFA. Not the game itself but the official license. EA really doesnt deserve to have the license with its sh*tty gameplay. If EA would lose the license I promise I'll never bother FIFA fans again:D

What format does this ISS run on? PC? Console? I personally only can afford my bazillion dollar PC to play games on, so for me (living in the US) it's got to be FIFA. The thing is, I believe you guys that say those OTHER football/soccer games are better, but FIFA to me is PRETTY DAMN EXCELLENT and NOTHING you say will make me think it sucks. I dont play soccer. Never did, never will. But I DO play ALOT OF VIDEO GAMES and FIFA WC2002 is a great "VIDEO GAME".

If you read these posts carefully, you'll find that people who enjoy FIFA are not trying to twist your arms and make you like it. We dont care. However, there seems to be this thing with the guy's who DONT like it to try and tell us why WE should'nt like it either. Tell EA about it, THEY are interested in your comments, not me. Just E-Mail em (cause I'm tellin' ya, they aint readin' these boards).

Did you say that you don't play soccer? Ok finally that solves my case and now I know who really likes FIFA games. :D

Don't ask about ISS, I suggest you keep playing FIFA cause you will not enjoy ISS at all cause the gameplay of ISS feels real.

My cousin also does not play soccer here in Canada but he likes to play FIFA, not surprised at all.

To Canadian.10 Thread “What's So Bad WC 2002? NOTHING.”

Well, I’ve read the thread “What's So Bad WC 2002? NOTHING.” and it’s impressed me. Perhaps, u’re only one from several canadians who really like the football and have the strong opinion.
Look, if u see the opponent argument like – idiot, there is no more answer at all. It means that opponent don’t have any piece of mind. So, discuss with them – just wasting the time. For those who discussing – the wrong man who is smarter.
If ppl prefer chupa-chups to football - let them go.
I completely agree with u - WC2002 sucks or even more worse (in spite on all adjustments). Nobody can say me even a word as for gameplay – this is a bull****, especially with a tackle. It doesn’t make any f…ed difference - was it with “drunken tackle” or without.
This is not a football at all. This is, as I said, chupa-chups soccer, which suits to ppl who vaguely may recognize what the difference between ping-pong, hockey and the real one.
Do u remember WC’94, which was in the USA?
I was out of mind, when I saw the reaction of the stadium (which was mostly filled up by american
ppl ) – every time when the ball went out over the goal’s bar – they celebrated! I was wonder – what the point?
And after, it occurred to me, that they just don’t know anything about THE FOOTBALL!
They celebrate, because they think it was scoring, like in american football.
I’m sure, there were canadians also and they celebrated too without any idea what’s going on in the pitch.
Well, no wonder that EA can’t make a good football sim, (except FIFARTWC 98 with some tolerances) because they don’t know what it does and nobody from programmers played this perfect game in their childhood. They don’t know what does the ball’s feeling, good passing and dribble. They never bumped into each other during the real game. And, of course, they don’t have a good concurrence. (I’m sure, Konami will kick up their asses). All what they need – THE MONEY.
I may continue, but why? This game, I mean fifa series also, is really supposed to ppl who
doesn’t give a **** about the real football. “The real football - is too much boring”!? Forgive them…
Make happy with this sim and enjoy (smart ppl’ll understand me).

P.S.
One famous russian football commentator said: Play the football!
I’d like to say to EA programmers – Play the hockey, it’s much acceptable for you.

This forum is like a cactus out of season. It has just enough pricks left that you don't want to be around it.

I'm really looking forward to trying these other games people are always talking about - Pro Evolution Soccer, is it called, or whatever? Anyway, I'd play three-aside backyard kickaround if I could get my hands on it. I'm not discriminate when it comes to playing football video games.

But for those of you who play those other, non-EA games and prefer them, why would you be here complaining that FIFA doesn't have this feature and doesn't have the same quality of gameplay or whatever? If you've found the perfect video game in PES, why would you even bother playing FIFA? Further, why would you bother complaining about it when you already have the ideal game that has none of these shiortcomings? It's kind of like saying your neighbour's wife is a witch - you're not the one that has to live with her.

Oh, and Canadian.10, you worthless, witless, idiot. Please do **** right off. I floss my teeth with your mother's pubic hair.

Hey bozzo watch your mouth piss face. And it is non of your business if I bother playing FIFA. I played it and I am not satisfied but you are cause you don't know what real footie is. Should I teach you how to kick a ball or should I volley a soccer ball right on your bullocks. Go take your non realistic soccer somewhere else wussy. Ya piece of :monkey: PISSING ME OFF HERE.

I think Its because Winning Eleven isn't a perfect game either.
In PS version, players dont even have eyes. Dont know with PS2 version.
Maybe some people want to mix the good point of FIFA like Excelent graphics, FIFpro license, curling shoot, star player, and how a player's face look so real in WC 2002, with WE gameplay like dribling style, lob through pass, 3 different crossing type, and how unselected player can automatic run to opponent atacker just by pressing a button and etc.
In WE4 or 2000, I have almost 50% chance to score when i shoot from outside of the box with half shoot powerbar. Is that realistic too? I remember how my friend complain that its so unfair that he try so hard to score and I just beat him with very rare come in to his penalty box. In my opinion WE is more relaxed game than FIFA cause when defending you just need to press "Square" and "cross" button in PS gamepad to make two of your players run to tackle the opponent atacker who run with the ball. Compared with FIFA that maybe unrealistic but we will try to move back as soon as possible when computer did their long lob so we have little chance to stop them.
If i say, this game is great, but still far from perfect. If this game really a perfect game, none of you will wasting your time here anymore. Beside some people who loses their WE CD.;)

Canadian.10, I'm not arguing with you anymore. I don't think it fair to be insulting a nine-year-old. You are nine, aren't you?

Know what I love? EA Sports FIFA series. You know what I love more than the FIFA series? Nothing.

And the rest of you can take a long haul on my rhino horn. Amen.

shuffle, I have a simple question for you. Why are still talking about WE4 and WE2000? Do you even know how many games in the series has Konami produce since? I realize that not everyone can afford a PS2 but think rational. Comparing WE2000 graphics on a PSone compare to a FIFA on the PC is absurd. And you still mentioned about WE2000's gameplay. Konami has ironed out all the problems that you stated. It is like talking about FIFA97 compare to WC2002. For your information, here is a list of the number games in the series Konami has produced since WE2000.

PSone:
J-League Winning Eleven 2000 2nd - 2000 - JAP
International Superstar Soccer Pro Evolution 2 - 2001 - EURO
J-League Winning Eleven 2001 -2001 - JAP
Pro Evolution Soccer - 2002 - EURO
World Soccer Winning Eleven 2002 - 2002 - JAP

PLAYSTATION 2:
World Soccer Winning Eleven 5 - 2001 - JAP
Pro Evolution Soccer - 2001- PAL
J-League Winning Eleven 5 - 2001 - JAP
World Soccer Winning Eleven 5: Final Evolution - 2001 - JAP
World Soccer Winning Eleven 6 - 2002 - JAP

Go here to learn more about the series: http://www.wegrinta.it/index.shtml
Sorry it is in Italian but there are screenshots so you can see how the players do have real eyeballs now in the PS2 versions.
